This is a Part Time Paid Internship
Amblin Partners is a major entertainment studio located in Universal City, CA. We are currently accepting resumes for a Physical Production rotation internship. This internship will begin on June 20 and end August 10. This program will run Monday through Thursday from 9am through 6pm. In order to be considered, candidates must be currently enrolled in university studies entering their Junior or Senior year in Fall of 2023. Preference will be given to those studying the entertainment arena as a major/minor.
The Physical Production department manages the actual production of feature film projects for the studio. The team is very hands-on and responsible for the budgeting, planning, and oversight during the production process.
Physical Production works very closely with the Production Finance and Visual Effects departments, so the internship also offers a rotation with those teams for additional learning opportunities, however most of the internship will be spent with the Physical Production department.
Physical Production Internship:
• Learn the ins and outs of feature film production on the studio level and how various departments integrate with each other.
• Gain knowledge of script breakdowns for budgeting and scheduling with one-on-one tutorials on Movie Magic Budgeting & Scheduling software.
• Review preliminary schedules to better understand the overall production plan on active projects.
• Assist with initial location research and interface with film commissions and production service companies around the world.
• Help expand our internal database of department lists with new Director of Photography, Production Designer and Costume Designer ideas and keep credits up to date.
• Participate in departmental meetings and observe meetings with filmmakers and assist in notetaking as needed.
• Help review and assist with end credit crawl tasks.
• Learn the Scenechronize system and how we manage and distribute documents
• File incoming production docs to Box.
• Request/send out NDA's and file accordingly.
The Visual Effects internship rotation is a detailed, hands-on experience encompassing every step of the process working on the VFX in a feature film. From the initial script to the contracting of the vendors, to the onset experience all the way to the delivery of film finals for theatrical release, this program lets you work inside each step and see the inner workings of the process from start to finish.
VFX Internship Rotation:
• General grasp and understanding of the different levels of VFX work seen on screen.
• Sitting in on pre-production and post-production meetings on the features. currently at Amblin and how the VFX are being planned at these different stages.
• Breaking down a script to determine how what you read on the page is budgeted.
• Determining the team and vendor best matched to the film and the work needed to create the environment, characters and even the world that is needed.
• The difference between the studio side of VFX and the Vendor side of VFX.
• The tracking and planning of the constant moving and changing entity that is VFX in filmmaking.
• Providing a better understanding of how VFX helps to tell the story in the majority of today's films, not just the summer blockbusters and superhero experiences. It is a fundamental part of modern filmmaking and essential in bringing cinematic stories to life.
The Production Finance department oversees all financial aspects from early research and development to budgeting, shooting, and post production once a feature is greenlit.
Production Finance Internship Rotation:
• Getting an overview of the role Studio Finance and Accounting play on the production of a feature film.
• Understanding the Budgeting Process, and how that helps inform the filmmaker's vision. Working in Movie Magic Budgeting to get a sense of that program.
• Learning what a Production Accountant and team does, what they are responsible for, and a ''day in the life'' of a typical accounting department.
• For the Studio Finance side of things, learning how the two work together, and how they interact with every department on every film.
• Post Production Accounting, a 'day in the life'. Shadowing and assisting one of the Finance team members.
• Working with the Team on our ongoing archiving and file retrieval project.
