NBC Sports is looking for an experienced Transmission Operator to monitor and maintain Broadcast feeds and operations at their Stamford studio location. The Transmission Operator is a public facing representative of NBC Sports communicating and coordinating with multiple departments within the company and with outside providers. This includes fiber providers, technology vendors and internal and external clients.
This position is responsible for acquiring and transporting contribution-based content as well as small project-based assignments within the department. The Transmission Operator is responsible for the quality control of transmission for NBC Sports, business partners within NBC Universal and large-scale events such as the Olympics, NFL, Golf and Soccer. The candidate for this position will have knowledge of these technologies: fiber, satellite, bonded cellular, compression equipment, test gear, video, audio, and IP. Performance of this position must be accurate, efficient and with a professional demeanor to uphold the NBC Sports standards.
Job Responsibilities:
• Responsible for transmission coordination and check-in for high profile sporting events based off companywide scheduling system
• Interfaces with the Operations and Production departments to ensure the utmost quality for all their transmission and routing needs
• Responsible for troubleshooting and monitoring of on-air video and audio signals, satellite transmissions and multiplexed signals for multiple broadcast streams
• Interacts with transmission carriers to resolve issues, escalations, maintenance, and overall performance
• Establishes standard operation procedures for all transmission technologies activities which include audio/video and communications check-in and QC process for remotes, outgoing transmission activity, and ingest
• Provides quality control and support to all departments in need of feeds assistance
• Partners with engineering teams to troubleshoot higher level problems
• Assists in equipment testing and configuration as needed
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Knowledge of fiber optic and coax transport, H.264, HEVC, 4K encoding and decoding, ASI, IP, J2K compression, frame syncs, matrix-based communications systems, and plant routing systems
• Knowledge of IP transmission and IP video workflows
• Ability to comprehend signal flow documents (CAD) as well as systems level troubleshooting
Desired Characteristics:
• Preferred minimum three (3) years broadcast / operations experience
• Ability to maintain composure in a high-pressure work environment
