This is a Full Time Job
The Margaret Herrick Library is seeking an experienced researcher and editor to manage the submission process for feature film eligibility in the annual Academy Awards and oversee research projects involving film credits. You have expert knowledge of film history, the filmmaking process, filmmaking terms, and motion picture industry practices.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the submission process for feature film eligibility in the annual Academy Awards.
• Work closely with Member Relations and Awards team throughout the annual Awards submission process.
• Respond to queries from industry personnel, Academy members, Academy staff, members of the press and the public regarding eligibility, the Awards submission process and Awards rules interpretation as appropriate.
• Work with producers and studio credits departments to ensure their credits submissions meet entry requirements and are completed by deadlines set by the Academy.
• Process feature film submissions and review to confirm eligibility.
• Review, verify and edit credits data in internal databases. Conduct original research as needed in print and online resources.
• Conduct credits-based research in support of Member Relations and Awards.
• Interact with Academy member committees during annual membership review process.
• Supervise full-time and part-time staff assisting in the Awards submission process, performing data entry and researching credits. Allocate work assignments and review completed work.
• Provide research and text editing assistance on other library projects as needed.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or master's degree in film studies, film history or related discipline.
• Expert knowledge of film history, the filmmaking process and motion picture industry practices.
• Understanding of film credits.
• Previous film industry experience preferred.
• Demonstrated research expertise with print and online resources, and copy editing and proofreading skills.
• Experience managing staff.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), database systems and Web-based data entry procedures.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects and effectively set priorities while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues, administrators, and film industry personnel.
• Strong understanding of confidentiality with the ability to exercise critical judgement and solve problems.
• Ability to learn new skills quickly.
• Reading knowledge of languages other than English desirable.
• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods, kneel/bend/stoop to access filed materials, and lift boxes up to 25 lbs.
