Job Overview
The Senior Assistant Editor is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the preparation and organization of project materials throughout all stages of the digital, non-linear video editing process. This role supports editors, producers, coordinators, and the finishing team while also developing and implementing efficient workflows, training junior staff, and establishing best practices for the department.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
• Expert proficiency in AVID and strong working knowledge of DaVinci Resolve
• Comprehensive understanding of post-production workflows and procedures
• Lead and optimize Media Management Strategies
• Oversee and improve processes for importing/exporting, transcoding, asset management, and project archiving
• Develop and implement standardized procedures for prepping shots for finish (both internal and external finishing facilities)
• Streamline processes for overcutting, uprezzing, creating EDLs/Bins, OMF/AAFs
• Ensure adherence to spec sheets and mastering requirements
• Establish efficient workflows for conforming spots to social sizes
• Provide high-level editorial support and mentorship to junior staff
• Develop and maintain systems for daily assemblies, scene breakdowns, dialogue breakdowns, and shot pulls
• Create and oversee processes for continuity breakdowns, VFX breakdowns, and shot lists
• Leverage extensive Theatrical/Broadcast Marketing post-production experience to enhance departmental operations
• Demonstrate exceptional multitasking abilities and efficiency under tight deadlines
• Exemplify and foster strong attention to detail and organizational skills throughout the team
• Lead in identifying and resolving technical problems and developing preventative measures
• Mentor and guide team members aspiring to become editors or advance in post-production
• Design and conduct training programs for junior assistant editors and new hires
• Collaborate with the Head of Post Production to establish and maintain best practices and quality standards
• Continuously evaluate and propose improvements to departmental workflows and technologies
DUTIES AND TASKS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO ASSIST WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS. FLEXIBILITY AND ADAPTABILITY ARE ESSENTIAL IN THIS ROLE.
Additional Information
• Minimum of 2 years of assistant editing experience with some leadership experience
• Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior staff
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Experience in implementing and optimizing post-production workflows
Salary/Benefits
$35.00 - 40.00 per hour
