Crewing Operations Manager

Big Ten Network is searching for a Manager of Crewing to join their team in Chicago, IL. The Manager is responsible for oversight of the entire crewing operation for the Big Ten Network including production crew needed in the MICR control rooms in Chicago, the Studio in Chicago, and all remote production crews. The Manager is directly responsible for the MICR control rooms and the core crews. The position exists to ensure all productions have qualified production personnel scheduled and is directly responsible for the management of this workforce.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
MICR Control Room and Core Crew
• Strategically schedules all needed positions based on individual competency, production feedback, and event priority, minimally two weeks in advance or as soon as possible
• Communicates the confirmed crews to the appropriate operations contacts by event or show
• Manages performance of workforce by providing performance feedback both in person, over the phone, and via email
• Works with FOX and BTN payroll and the corresponding payroll systems to ensure timely and accurate payment of the workforce
• Maintains a detailed spreadsheet for all assigned events including crew availability and confirmations
Crewing Management
• Manages staff, third-party, and freelance crew to ensure that all crewing assignments and specific needs are communicated and filled minimally two weeks in advance, or as soon as possible
• Manages strategic scheduling of the crew based on individual competency, production feedback, and event priority to ensure direct report, third-party, and freelance crew are meeting expectations
• Understands what is required of every scheduled production position
• Understands and ensures compliance with all collective bargaining agreements
• Research and record crew costs for forecasting and budgeting purposes in Salesforce
• Maintains a working environment which promotes diversity, inclusion, and transparency in decision making
• Builds and maintains professional relationships with MICR, Core, Staff, and Freelance production workforce that are scheduled
• Leads recruiting and training process of new production personnel including identifying and interviewing new candidates, attending job fairs, and working with recruiting and HR to advertise roles in needs
• Reviews production reports and takes necessary follow-up action with individual personnel, management, and HR
• Works closely with Production management, Coordinating Producers, Producers, and Directors on crew requests and production feedback to ensure that production personnel are scheduled according to their performance and aligned with priority events
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• 5+ years of professional experience on live event production or broadcasting
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Sports Television and remote, event, and studio production.
• Knowledge and understanding of union policies
• Excellent attention to detail and outstanding organizational and project management skills are necessary
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate large teams and while making strategic decision to improve overall operations
• Ability to lead the crewing operation and display initiative to strategically improve operations
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and remain highly self- motivated while working independently
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook, and understanding in the use of Google Docs and Salesforce
• Always available and on call to address last minute crewing emergencies of any kind for events, work late nights and weekends, and travel for some meetings, live sporting events, and/or media events throughout the year

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communications, Radio/TV/Film, or equivalent work experience

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $75,000.00-105,000.00 annually for high cost labour markets such as but not limited to New York City and Los Angeles, $62,500.00-87,500.00 annually for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
