The Big Ten Network is looking for a Freelance Technical Operations Coordinator to join the StudentU team in our Chicago offices. The Freelance Technical Operations Coordinator will be responsible for the success of the technical side of getting StudentU stream broadcasts onto the B1G+ platform.
You will be responsible for connecting streaming equipment and bringing in program feeds from our 18 Big Ten campuses and ensuring they are properly routed for broadcast, as well as providing remote troubleshooting assistance for any issues that may arrive before or during the broadcast window. Other responsibilities involve ensuring that StudentU production policies and procedures are being followed on broadcast and assisting the Technical Operations Manager with projects to help grow and improve the StudentU program.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with on-campus contacts to ensure program feeds are being received and are properly routed for broadcast on B1G+
• Provide remote troubleshooting assistance for connectivity and quality control issues
• Ensure that elementals are properly configured each day according to the event schedule
• Collaborate with other departments including streaming and transmissions and contribute in weekly meetings relating to the management of technical equipment for StudentU
• Assist in the daily assignment of decoders, routers, and elementals and the communication of these assignments to other departments
• Assist the Technical Operations Manager with projects and various duties
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Knowledge of control room technologies and control systems, including intercom, router panels, and monitors
• Capability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and display solid decision-making skills under tight deadlines
• Strong understanding of signal workflows for streamed broadcasts
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as a member of a team
• Extremely strong verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly instruct and help parties remotely over intercom or phone
• Ability to operate a computer and Windows operating system
• Ability to quickly diagnose and solve technical issues
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

• Bachelor's degree
• Understanding of sports broadcast production standards
• Deep love of the schools and teams of the Big Ten Conference
