Billboard is hiring a Senior Writer in Los Angeles who will lead breaking music news coverage on the West Coast, covering lawsuits, legal battles and other big breaking events in the music celebrity world. With a renowned authority among artists, fans and the industry, Billboard powers the ultimate global music destination and magazine, featuring unrivaled reporting on music news, issues and trends, and the industry's definitive charts.
This Senior Writer will interview top artists, develop close relationships with music’s top executives, publicists, lawyers and legal minds, cover key lawsuits, hearings and trials, breaking news of the events that music fans care about most.
Responsibilities:
• Cover cases, hearings and trials involving music stars
• Break news on big events in music world and celebrity musicians
• Interview top artists for written pieces, video and social media
• Write multiple news stories daily
• Use online legal research tools to track, report and analyze developments in music cases, and explain why they matter
• Contribute to editorial projects from power lists to cover stories to special issues
Requirements:
• 5 years’ experience reporting on tight deadlines
• Familiar with and fascinated by the music business
• A great communicator and well-sourced reporter
• Comfortable on camera and interested in multimedia reporting
• A clear, fast writer who can break down complicated legal matters for a broad audience, both in writing and/or on video
• Passionate about breaking news
• Eager to interview music talent
• A resourceful researcher who can find and pull legal filings quickly and easily
• Legal background/education a plus but not required
Salary range: $90K-$105K

As PMC values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.
