DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Accounting and Finance team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of all financial transactions of the club. Responsibilities extend to payroll, treasury, tax and compliance, risk management, and MLB reporting requirements. In addition, the department is dedicated to working with all business and department leaders on financial reporting and controls, setting strategies through budgeting and forecasting, analyzing key operating indicators and trends, and ensuring proper oversight of the club's financial resources.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Part-Time Accountant will support the entire Finance & Accounting department by assisting in maintaining financial records, processing invoices, and performing basic accounting tasks. The role is ideal for someone with a strong attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and a basic understanding of accounting principles. The Part-Time Accountant is a unique role with responsibilities across several distinct entities within Fenway Sports Group, LLC. including the Boston Red Sox, Red Sox Foundation, and Real Estate organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the accounts receivable process by entering monthly invoices, communicating with customers, and maintaining accounts receivable reconciliations
• Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes
• Prepare general ledger entries for month-end close for all properties
• Develop and maintain reconciliations for balance sheet accounts used for internal and external audits
• Assist with cash reconciliations and ensure proper coding of all bank transactions
• Prepare and review bank reconciliations for all real estate entities
• Support account payable process and work with Foundation team on outgoing payments and documentation
• Assist with annual legal filings required of non-profit entities
• Review credit card chargeback requests and disputes
• Assist with the audit fieldwork by pulling support and creating supporting schedules
• Ensure accuracy of all transactions and research large variances to budget, forecasts, or prior years for real estate entities
• Support the process for forecast and budget updates for real estate entities
• Expand process documentation, accounting policies, and workflows with a critical eye for continuous improvement
CHARACTERISTICS / QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field
• Prior experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role is preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, etc.), with advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains accounting software is preferred but not required
• Superb telephone, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across administrative functions and to assist colleagues on related projects as needed
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritize
• Strong attention to detail and high accuracy level
• Highly motivated to continuously learn and improve accounting and system processes
