POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Sport Science Assistant Coordinator will work as collaborative member within the Red Sox Sport Science and Sport Performance team to advance the understanding of the factors impacting performance and how to best drive performance improvements. The individual in this position will take an active role in working across departments to advance sport science initiatives within the Red Sox minor league baseball program, with the intent of supporting athlete health, wellness, and performance. The Assistant Coordinator will have the ability to work independently, will bring a strong scientific background to the position, and will demonstrate a track record of implementing scientific programs in an applied sport setting. The individual in this position will have experience working with a range of performance technologies and will be well versed in data and analytic techniques, including having experience with Athlete Management Systems.
The overarching Red Sox Performance Department encompasses sport science, strength and conditioning, physical therapy/ physiotherapy, athletic training, psychology/ mental skills and nutrition. The Sport Science Assistant Coordinator will work to support all these disciplines to provide reliable support and drive an evidence-based approach to optimize performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the development and execution of Red Sox sport science initiatives in support of player health, wellness, and performance.
• Provide in-person sport science support to the Boston Red Sox minor league FCL, A, A affiliate programs in Ft. Myers, FL, Salem, VA and Greenville, SC, respectively.
• Develop tools and techniques to support the collection of objective performance and health data.
• Support the development of the Red Sox's Athlete Management System and conduct analytics/ statistical analyses of the data within the AMS to answer performance questions and gain performance insights.
• Generate reports and develop data feedback mechanisms that facilitate the dissemination and application of performance data.
• Present and communicate with a range of constituents, including senior staff, technical directors, coaches and athletes.
• Build collaborations and maintain a professional network of science and data professionals that can serve as potential resources for the Red Sox.
• Build and maintain relationships with other departments within the Sport Performance team (medical, strength, nutrition, mental skills, biomechanics) to understand the health and performance questions faced by these groups and develop solutions to address them.
• Help manage members of the sport science staff, both in the United States and in the Dominican Republic; assist in establishing KPIs for each and conduct regular performance reviews. Serve as in-person lead for Ft. Myers-based Sport Science program and day to day staff management during the minor league season.
• Collaborate with the Sport Science Coordinator and the Manager of Performance Development to ensure all players receive individual physical programs, monitoring and management to track progress in key metrics.
• Help systematize sport science processes and take projects from the conceptual stage to deployment.
• In collaboration others in the department, monitor off-season training across the Red Sox affiliates.
• This is a Ft. Myers, FL based position with travel to the Red Sox affiliates in Salem and Greenville three times each during the season. There will also be periodic travel to Boston as well as other events throughout the year.

• Spanish speaking is a plus.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
• Graduate Degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, or other related academic fields of study.
• 3 years of experience in delivering sport science initiatives to coaches and athletes within a high-performance environment. Baseball or softball experience preferred.
• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary performance team within a professional sporting organization.
• Knowledge of statistics (e.g., probability, linear regression, Bayesian inference) and statistical programs (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB).
• Practical experience with athlete testing and tools for processing, analyzing and visualizing sport science data including but not limited to, GPS, IMU's, force plates, etc.
• Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management.
• Ability to communicate complex data and concepts in terms that are easily understood by a wide range of audiences.
• Ability to perform sport science research and projects independently, and then apply the findings of that research.
