CAA, which acquired ICM Partners in 2022, has expanded its operation in London, bringing the agency's publishing business in-house. A fast-paced and growing department selling rights to the CAA list across all languages, territories, and formats to establish and develop literary careers worldwide; we work with internationally acclaimed and bestselling authors across fiction and non-fiction.
We are looking for a new detail-oriented and efficient Publishing Assistant to join our team, primarily to support one of our Agents. This Assistant will work on a client list comprised of UK- and US-based authors, including names like Taffy Brodesser-Akner, Catherine Airey, Kevin Kwan, Elizabeth Acevedo, Lauren Weisberger, Aisling Rawle, Susie Wolff, Riley Keough, Oloni Dee, Arthur C.Brooks & Oprah Winfrey, as well as many other bestselling and prize-winning writers of fiction and non-fiction.
Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
• Reading and commenting on author's new material and managing incoming submissions.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for Agent and facilitate and respond to communications and enquires (via email and phone) both internally and externally e.g., with authors, clients, publishers, colleagues.
• Writing some submission letters to publishers and creating publication roundups.
• Having responsibility for drawing up and tracking contracts, logging deals and submissions, and keeping our databases up to date.
• Tracking invoices and payments.
• Processing post, author copies, and book orders.
• Providing admin support to the Agent in all areas including diary management, booking travel, scheduling meetings, and expenses.
• Dealing with enquiries about rights sales, and once trained, selling translation rights in some emerging markets.
• Helping to collate our guides for book fairs and handling all administration around them.
• Preparing newsletters, and write website and marketing copy.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Relevant experience in a similar role within an agency, publisher or within the publishing industry (desirable).
• A passion for books and reading, particularly commercial fiction and non-fiction, and a keen interest to develop a career in the publishing industry.
• Ability to identify trends within publishing and associated industries e.g. media such as podcasts, film, TV, and visual arts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Impeccable organisational skills with the ability to multi-task.
• Ability to effectively prioritise and work to deadlines.
• Ability to remain composed under pressure within a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work off own initiative.
• Strong problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills.
• Client focused and service orientated with strong interpersonal skills.
• A team player that contributes fully to the team effort and plays an integral part in the smooth running of the team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Language skills are desirable but not essential.
