CBS News is the news and information division of CBS, dedicated to providing the highest quality journalism under standards it pioneered and continues to set in today's digital age. Headquartered in the famed CBS Broadcast Center in New York, CBS News has bureaus across the globe and produces influential, critically acclaimed programs providing original reporting, interviews, investigations, analysis and breaking news 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
CBS News provides news and information for the CBS Television Network, CBSN, CBSNews.com, CBS News Radio and CBS Mobile. CBS News is home to the nation's #1 news program, ''60 MINUTES,'' ''CBSN,'' the 24/7 digital streaming news network, and the award-winning broadcasts ''CBS THIS MORNING,'' co-hosted by Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil, the ''CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O'DONNELL,'' ''CBS SUNDAY MORNING, ''48 HOURS,'' ''CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY,'' and ''FACE THE NATION.''
The editorial portion of this Broadcast Associate role will be intense, heavily focused on extensive research and question crafting. Research skills should involve a capacity to review the material, tease out important points, find the questions at the heart of a matter and the questions not being asked. The job will also include reporting-- getting on the phone with sources to gather material, finding the right sources, digging for information and not stopping at a newspaper account, but digging down further to the original report.
It is crucial that you have an interest in stories, how to tell them, what makes for a good one and what details excite the imagination.
Key skills are attention to detail, curiosity and enthusiasm and an interest in trying to sharpen these skills along with the correspondent, who will be seeking to do the same. You may also handle emergency requests of producers at various shows.
Throughout the job, the BA will acquire a set of skills for looking at the world, uncovering its most vital questions and illuminating the questions and answers through story-telling (in essays and television pieces), question asking and on-air analysis.
Administrative duties will include booking travel and CBS News related events for correspondent, as well as tracking expenses (filing reports as well as allocating expenses to appropriate cost centers), coordinating talent's CBS News schedule and serving as liaison between CBS News bookers/producers and correspondent.
