This is a Full Time Job
The CBS News national streaming channel, CBS News 24/7, is seeking an experienced and skilled full-time IBEW / 403(G) Technician. This Ingest/Transmission Operator oversees all inbound and outbound media, content, and news gathering. Responsibilities include monitoring on-air product quality, ensuring compliance with government regulations, troubleshooting equipment, and preparing programming for broadcast.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitor and manage inbound/outbound media using various formats like fiber, Skype, and TVU.
• Ensure timely response to breaking news stories and coordinate broadcast delivery.
• Collaborate with team members and network staff, providing support as needed.
• Identify and insert broadcast-quality video/audio into news bulletins on short notice.
• Handle broadcast media and feeds, manage video/audio switching, and operate recording equipment.
• Use Servers and monitoring facilities and manage media delivery.
• Ingest media to servers and manipulate files for editing purposes.
• Perform basic fault finding and raise issues when necessary.
• Support live studio production requirements and provide excellent service to media operations clients.
• Monitor and control video encoding/decoding systems and fix incoming/outgoing systems.
• Prepare backup plans for equipment or transmission line failures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2-5 years experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of server-based news environments, hardware, and software.
• Understanding of news, current affairs, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Quality Control tools and processes.
• Familiarity with digital/video formats, ingest workflows, servers, and broadcast production.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
• Ability to balance multiple tasks under pressure and remain calm.
• Understanding of broadcast production workflows and technical standards.
• Knowledgeable about broadcast formats, server systems, and diagnostic tools.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced news environment.
• Organizational skills and punctuality.
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in a technical field.
This is a position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the IBEW.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $82,000.00 - $85,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program, and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
