Interested in joining the team? We have an ongoing hiring need for Associate Producers in San Francisco and are continuously reviewing applicants who have a basic understanding of a news control room and have a passion for news. All applicants will be reviewed and considered for a current or near-future opening.
Your Day-to-Day:
• On hand in the newsroom to gather elements during breaking news
• Commands basic knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture
• Has basic knowledge of control room
• Capable of taking direction in high pressure situations
• Receives assignment and guidance from Executive Producer or Line Producer to research and write questions for anchors for guest segments and exercises editorial judgment in selection of elements for segments
• Writes copy for anchor and reporter voices for live segments/readers as well as writing for feature and news packages; Works with editors to turn around pre-taped segments
• Pitches and executes special and feature segments
• Edits VO/VOSOTs at the direction of the Executive Producer or Line Producer
• Supports special shows and projects as needed
• Orders graphics and writes banners for assigned stories and segments
• Pulls specific video and soundbites
• Coordinates video, graphics and soundbites with control room team during segments
• Communicates with anchors and correspondents on segments; Pitches stories
• May produce sponsored segments
• Writes headlines and captions for segments to be posted online
• Works with Digital Line Producers and editors to clean up and update segments after they air.
• Works with editors to turn around pre-taped segments.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years working in broadcast journalism.
• 3 years experience writing copy for network, cable and/or local TV news in a major market.
• Background in journalism and TV, including strong news judgment & critical thinking skills.
• Impeccable grammar and spelling, experience in news writing and feature taped packages and ability to pass comprehensive CBS News Digital writing test.
• Strong communication skills and ability to advise production assistants and junior staff in writing and editing broadcast copy.
• Superior news judgment.
• Command of AP style and broadcast writing.
• Detail oriented with ability to work and write calmly and efficiently in high stress, intense deadline, live TV environment.
• Be able to multi-task and handle multiple assignments for regular programming as well as rolling breaking news coverage.
• Available for early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
You might also have –
• Knowledge of ENPS preferred.
• Line producing experience. A deep understanding of political news.
• Strong understanding of digital and social media.
• Knowledge and an enthusiasm for the future of digital media.
This is a position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the WGA-E.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $68,000.00 - 74,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
