Associate Editorial Producer, Central Booking (Dallas or Nashville)
The Central Booking team is seeking a competitive Associate Editorial Producer to book guests for coverage across the news division, including CBS Mornings, CBS Evening News, 24/7 Streaming, and more!
Key Responsibilities
This Associate Editorial Producer will pitch and pursue character-driven stories and breaking news interviews, both in the field and from home base, while developing relationships with publicists, attorneys, companies, and various figures in the news.
The role involves traveling into the field for major breaking news, conducting door knocks to interview subjects, pursuing live and taped interviews, and working on a wide variety of beats including breaking news, day-of-air pieces, weather, features, consumer, business, politics, international, and medical news.
Schedule:
Sunday to Thursday, 3pm to midnight
Required Qualifications
• At least 2 years of producing experience in a professional newsroom
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be willing and able to travel and work occasional overnight and/or weekend shifts
• Must be willing to be based in Dallas or Nashville
Preferred Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent experience in broadcast journalism or related field
• Experience chasing breaking news
• Detailed understanding of the broadcast newsgathering process
• Experience supporting newsgathering teams using news judgment and leadership skills
• Proven ability to manage ongoing relationships with external contributors, news outlets and other colleagues.
• Phenomenal research skills, including working with public and private records databases such as Lexis Nexis.
• Must be an outstanding writer with well-developed oral communication skills, especially when working on sensitive items.
• Must be able to balance and prioritize multiple stories with different deadlines: short, medium, and long-term.
Preferred Characteristics
• Watches CBS News programming as well as the competition and knows what makes a good booking for every story
• Is a self-starter who monitors their stories for developments and flags evolving information in real time to improve coverage
• Possesses sound, unbiased news judgment, persistence, and an understanding of TV newsgathering
• Can optimally communicate internally across show teams and platforms as well as externally with guests and contacts
• Thrives in fast-paced and time-critical situations
• Is not afraid to make phone calls
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $65,000.00 - 75,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
