Broadcast Associate, CBS Evening News (DC)
CBS Evening News is looking for a Broadcast Associate to join our dynamic news organization. This entry level role will be based within our Washington, DC bureau and helps support our nightly broadcast. The selected candidate should have a keen knowledge of key Washington DC political figures, should be familiar with important stories of the day as well as current DC centric news.
Responsibilities:
• General news desk and administrative tasks
• Assist producers with tape transcription, retrieval of archive tape, story research and clearing video/photos for air
• Set up logistics for virtual interviews as well as logging interviews
• Log data for various political hearings, trials, and press conferences happening at Capitol Hill, White House, Department of Justice, and National Security
• Occasionally asked to field produce live shots for Correspondents
• Prepare (“breakâ€) scripts nightly for Anchor
• Attend twice daily rundown meetings (morning and afternoon)
• Pitch stories that demonstrate a sound news judgment
• Assist Producers in all CBS News’ bureaus as needed with tasks such as feeding tape, etc.
• Prepare nightly opposition log will be inputted into larger editorial logs for use across the News division
• Complete daily “Rights Manager†file which details all outside footage/photos used in our nightly broadcasts
• Other duties as assigned in furtherance of the organizational news mission
Qualifications:
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment under consistently tight deadlines
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
• Strong research skills including the use of both public and private records databases
• A team player with the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
• Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules as news warrants (including holidays, weekends, and nights)
• An interest in Washington politics and policy
• Works onsite with other members of our news organization
• Degree in journalism or related discipline, with strong editorial skills and judgment preferred
• Internship or comparable proven experience working on a news broadcast or newsroom setting preferred
