CBS New York is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and experienced meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather team.
This high-profile role requires a skilled storyteller who presents an authoritative, engaging forecast that is clear and relatable. This role demands a meteorologist who thrives on severe weather coverage, both in studio and reporting live in extreme conditions.
In addition to forecasting for CBS New York on weekdays, this meteorologist will occasionally be called upon to provide weather coverage for CBS network programs, including the CBS Evening News.
Responsibilities:
• Create local forecasts in alignment with the First Alert brand for CBS New York for all platforms.
• Contribute to First Alert Weather team coverage, both in studio and in the field whenever conditions require.
• Drive ideas/help conceptualize weather presentations using state of the art AR technology.
• Report on the impact of climate change across the tri-state area.
• Occasionally fill-in on weather coverage for CBS Network Programs, as needed.
• Work closely with news management, newscast producers, anchors and the digital team to execute CBS News and Stations’ weather strategy.
Requirements:
• Must have 10 years of experience.
• Proficient in weather graphics production
• B.S. degree in Meteorology or Earth Sciences
• Must demonstrate expertise communicating weather information with audiences on social media.
• This role is a union-covered role.
• AMS Seal required
• Ability to live field report and write packages
• Experience with severe weather coverage
Preferred skills:
• AMS and NWS seals are strongly preferred. Must be willing to earn these certifications
• Experience with WSI
• Awareness and a passion for the latest graphical tools to tell the story of weather, including AR/VR knowledge.
• Experience reporting on climate change
• Knowledge of the tri-state area is strongly preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $150,000.00 - 185,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary/Benefits
$150,000.00 - 185,000.00 per year
