JOB TITLE: Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach
DEPARTMENT: High Performance – Player Development

ROLE
Reporting to the Head of MiLB S&C and Performance Science, the focus of this role is to lead the S&C service to an assigned affiliate team. One will deliver team-wide and individual service of bespoke performance solutions in both the training and playing environments. One's performance delivery will be underpinned by best in-class knowledge and delivered with best in-class coaching skills. In particular, one will be able to positively influence training behaviors through data-driven strength diagnostics.
This information needs be communicated across a wide range of cultures, so being highly effectively to both English and Spanish-speaking athletes is important. The successful applicant will lead the delivery of strength and conditioning programs to Cubs players at one of our minor league affiliates for the 2022 season. There will also be coaching support virtually in the off-season and in-person for various camps in Arizona.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and lead the strength and conditioning and physical preparation of Chicago Cubs minor league baseball players under the direction of the Head MiLB Head S&C and Performance Science.
• Communicate with coaches and athletic trainers on player availability and progress on individual training outcomes.
• Plan training for both short and long-term outcomes with Cubs players in collaboration with the Head of MiLB S&C and Performance Science.
• Conduct strength diagnostics consistently and periodically for all assigned players to make informed decisions on appropriate training plans in collaboration with the MiLB Head S&C and Performance Science.

• Strategy & Philosophy:
• Evidence of an identifiable and compelling strategy of the most effective way to optimize the physical preparation of baseball players
• Evidence of the strategy informs decision making on groups, individuals & global team levels.
• Integration/collaboration with sport coaches regarding physical demands
• Longitudinal Planning:
• Complete a long-term (annual) physical preparation strategy – in collaboration with the Head MiLB S&C and Performance Science.
• Integration of different physical qualities and injury prevention strategies with athletic training staff.
• A 'plan-do-review' cycle of assessment: Identification of needs, program implementation, reassessment.
• Needs analysis, Programming & Follow-up review:
• Individual needs' analysis based on the appropriate – athlete input, coach input, performance diagnostics, MSK screening and sport technical abilities
• Implement individual goals from the needs' analysis process such as – athlete centered, and priority targets based on importance
• Implement programming targets the specific athlete qualities of a player, required to maximize their availability to practice, compete and maximize performance enhancement.
• Recorded and documented evidence of individual review and follow-up goals and targets
• Program Delivery:
• Evidence that training and conditioning is planned and periodized to optimize the development of all necessary physical qualities (speed, strength, power, endurance, repeatability, mobility, etc.)
• Plan and implement movement preparation and warm-ups that are used in a planned manner to support and supplement the development and maintenance of physical qualities.
• Performance Diagnostics (Testing & Monitoring):
• Ensure that diagnostic testing is undertaken in a systematic fashion at appropriate time points in order to gather information on the preparedness of athletes – as directed by the Head of MiLB S&C and Performance Science
• Ensure that all information is centrally recorded for all testing and performance diagnostics and that is communally accessible for all HP members
• An Implement targeted testing and monitoring is undertaken throughout the regular season in order to acutely influence physical preparation strategies that will optimize performance as directed and agreed upon by the Head MiLB S&C and Performance Science.

• Off-season - Influencing and Tracking Athletes Remotely:
• Programming S&C activities remotely using established communication platforms that facilitate remote coaching and programming
• Plan-do-review. Goal setting and longitudinal monitoring of remote impact
• Education:
• Conduct educational sessions around selected Player Development camps when appropriate.
• Continued Professional Development:
• The Chicago Cubs are committed to providing CPD for the successful candidate. We expect the successful candidate to undertake available training courses and research to enhance personal knowledge, skills and experience.
• Attend relevant training courses/seminars/workshops as required to assist with CPD as directed by the Head of S&C and Performance Science, and Director of High Performance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of 3 years full-time experience as a Strength and Conditioning coach in a high-performance environment
• Undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
• Certification as recognized by the NSCA (CSCS)
• Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with various sports, including those with overhead requirements
• Master's degree
• Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with NSCA (RSCC)
• Experience with various technologies in Human Performance
• Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
