Chyron Operator

Responsibilities
The Control Room Chyron Operator plays out 4 channels of graphics for on-air programming (live and/or pre-taped) via Lyric, using Chyron iSQ as a playout controller in conjunction with the Chyron Camio platform. Under certain circumstances they will also utilize Lyric as a stand-alone graphics creation and playout device.

On-air responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:
During pre-production –
• Ensuring Chyron software/hardware is functioning as expected
• Loading the show through Avid iNEWS program
• Playing out and previewing each Chyron message through iSQ to check for spelling, style, or grammar errors (as best as possible)
• Alerting the producers/writers to any errors

During show -
• Cueing up/playing out messages for air via iSQ and/or Lyric
• Changing messages on-air as called for by directors/producers
• Ensuring accurate message availability on four separate channels
• Maintaining focus throughout each segment of the entire show, regardless of whether or not Chyron elements are to be utilized

Basic off-air responsibilities, but not limited to:
• Monitoring specific iNEWS rundowns that are used by producers to request Chyron messages to be saved as stills for edit
• Creating new Chyron templates by updating existing templates with new elements supplied by the graphics department

Qualifications/Requirements

• Minimum 2 years' of experience using Chyron Lyric or similar broadcast graphics platforms (VizRT, Ross XPression), preferably in conjunction with a centralized playout controller
• Minimum 2 years' of professional experience working in a graphics, technology, and/or news department
• Ability to work all shifts including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
• Must be able to perform duties under the pressure of a live television production environment while exhibiting great attention to detail

Desired Characteristics

• Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and handle multiple, competing requests simultaneously
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong commitment to the customer
• Knowledge of CNBC programming is a plus
