CNN's Climate & Weather team is seeking a digital-first Senior Climate & Weather Reporter to cover daily news and develop stories that help illuminate and personalize the most urgent crisis of our time.
The ideal candidate thrives in climate journalism and has honed the ability to contextualize complex topics for a general audience. This person has their finger on the pulse of emerging trends - in climate science, weather, solutions and culture - and the ability to move between breaking news and smart features. This candidate enjoys working on multi-platform stories and gathering reporting for a news network that serves digital, TV and audio audiences. This person is a team-oriented collaborator who works to elevate their colleagues and works well with other teams in the newsroom, including video, data visuals and special projects.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Pitch, report and write a wide array of climate and weather news, well-reported analyses and features
• Support video ideation and creation, making sure our climate and weather videos are timely, accurate and engaging
• Recognize newsy moments and take the lead in launching coverage when major news breaks
• Write for and help manage live stories - an essential part of the Climate & Weather team's breaking news coverage
• Stay on top of new trends in the climate, weather and solutions space and mine those trends for insightful, engaging stories
• Help inform and guide the team's priorities as new developments emerge in the climate and weather space
• Keep track of the latest research and important studies
• Occasionally edit stories from your colleagues on the Climate & Weather team or reporters from other desks
• Step in for editors in editorial meetings and workflows when needed
• Turn in clean, accurate copy on the first draft
Qualifications & Experience…
• At least 10 years of digital editorial experience in climate change or related fields
• A passion for climate journalism and a deep understanding of climate science
• A proven track record of writing fast-moving breaking news
• A collaborative, team-oriented attitude
• The ability to translate and shape complex story ideas and news developments
• The ability to write briefly and breezily, but can also handle high-concept stories
• Strong pitching and headline instincts that help our audience connect with the news
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills
• College degree or equivalent industry experience
• Ability to be flexible with working hours based on the needs of the newsroom

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $91,000.00 - $169,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
