Accounts Payable Accountant
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for the financial, administrative, and clerical support of the Club. This position is responsible for making payments owed by the Club to suppliers and other creditors, paying vendor invoices or bills, and recording the Club's short-term liabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Train new employees on how to use the expense and invoicing system (Concur) for processing expenses and invoices while ensuring compliance with reimbursement policies and procedures.
• Receive vendor invoices and distribute them to the appropriate department for input into the Concur system.
• Review check request submissions in Concur for accuracy, proper coding, and use tax accruals.
• Import check request data into the ERP system (SAGE100) and issue checks weekly.
• Manage the P-Card program, including issuing cards, training employees, reviewing monthly statements, posting expenses to SAGE100, and managing available credit with the CFO.
• Oversee the employee Travel & Entertainment expense reimbursement process in Concur, ensuring accuracy, approvals, and receipt verification.
• Maintain the Concur database by updating general ledger codes, 1099 contractors, employees, and approval chains.
• Collect W9s for all new vendors and record them in SAGE100.
• Communicate with outside vendors regarding payment status and inquiries.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Process Weekly Per Diem ACH payments for Major and Minor League staff and players.
• Issue department reports to track expenses against budget and prior-year figures.
• Post Event Services (day-of-game staff) financial transactions quarterly.
• Conduct account analysis of various balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with year-end financial statement and revenue-sharing audits.
• Submit annual property tax reports.
• Assist in the annual budgeting process, including account analysis and reporting.
• Maintain a schedule of Colorado Rockies capital assets.
• Issue annual 1099 tax forms each January.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SPECIFICATIONS):
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience preferred.
• Must maintain confidentiality of financial and other sensitive information.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word) and familiar with ten-key data entry.
• Ability to process a high volume of work while prioritizing and managing time to meet critical deadlines.
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and strong analytical skills.
• Consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
• Effective communicator with the ability to interact well with senior leadership, staff, other departments, and vendors.
• Ability to work and thrive in a team-oriented environment.
• Adaptability in learning new accounting software systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS/WORK SCHEDULE:
• Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am until 5 pm.
• Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
• Open office/cubicle setting.
• Overtime may be required during busy seasons or special events.
• Minimal travel
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to sit for extended periods; occasionally standing and walking.
• Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment.
• Must be able to read screens, reports, and documents.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in person and via telephone.
• Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 15 lbs (files, office supplies, etc.).
• Must be able to traverse within an office environment, access file cabinets, and use standard office equipment.
• Must have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to process large volumes of data.
SALARY RANGE:
• This role will pay an hourly rate between $26.44 and $28.85 (equivalent to $55K-$60K annually). This is a regular-status, full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.
• As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
