Coordinator of Performance Science
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Colorado Rockies are seeking a dedicated individual to lead our Performance Lab in Scottsdale, AZ. As a Coordinator of Performance Science, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the collection and analysis of motion capture data within our pitching and hitting labs. You will also integrate markerless motion capture systems, force plates, high speed video, and biomechanical data to support player development, optimize performance, and reduce injury risk.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Effectively execute biomechanical assessments, including the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of biomechanics technology. This includes comprehensive analysis for on-field performance and injury risk assessment, as well as athlete monitoring.
• Lead the data selection and collection efforts using markerless motion capture systems for pitching, hitting, and performance assessments.
• Utilize force plates for assessing ground reaction forces in various athletic movements.
• Oversee biomechanics engines for pitching analysis, hitting analysis, performance testing, and other on-field related analyses.
• Process collected motion capture data and compile player reports for distribution to Major League and Player Development staff (coaches, trainers, physical therapists).
• Guide in the analysis of biomechanical data, contribute to report development, and lead ongoing research initiatives.
• Analyze TrackMan data, pitch data, and utilize Edgertronic cameras to complement biomechanical data in coaching athletes.
• Support the physical performance staff in responsibilities related to athlete evaluation, training, and performance enhancement, while efficiently collaborating with on-field staff.
• Conduct regular biomechanics review and education sessions with staff and players to enhance player performance and minimize injury risk.
• Collaborate in identifying, developing, and implementing measurement techniques, processes, and staying updated on current scientific literature and emerging technologies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Advanced degree and solid foundation in sport science, including, but not limited to Biomechanics, Sports Medicine, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related fields.
• Proficiency in motion-capture technologies, including markerless systems.
• Familiarity with TrackMan, Hawk-Eye, and other pitch data, and Edgertronic cameras for coaching athletes.
• Familiarity with force plate technology for assessing ground reaction forces.
• Demonstrated ability to creatively visualize biomechanics datasets.
• Proficiency in statistical programming for signal processing, data analysis, and modeling (R, Python, SQL, Tableau, etc.) is preferred.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the capability to engage directly with staff and players on a regular basis.
• A genuine passion for working with cutting-edge motion tracking technologies.
WORKING CONDITIONS/WORK SCHEDULE:
• Most of the work for this position will originate from the newly constructed Performance Lab at the Colorado Rockies spring training facility in Scottsdale, AZ
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, & nights when players and coaches are occupying the Salt River Fields complex
SALARY RANGE:
• $110,000 - $125,000. This is a regular status, full-time position.
