This is a Full Time Job
Our entertainment marketing production company is looking to hire a staff Writer with experience in either television, film, or advertising for our Creative Department. The ideal candidate is a versatile writer who is also an idea machine. We're constantly coming up with fresh ideas for clients to help promote movies and series, with and without talent involvement. The types of writing you'll be asked to do: ideas and prompts/scripts for fun social spots, sports integrations, games, broadcast commercials, greetings (''Hey, it's XYZ, come see my movie…''), decks, treatments, marketing copy, run-of-shows, experiential activations, etc. We're looking for short-form script-writers who can do both humor and straightforward storytelling, usually within a 30-second timeframe. We're looking for writers who can write engaging ideas/pitches that capture the imagination of the reader in just a few sentences. We're looking for writers who can describe the vibe, setting, action and logistics of a tightly-run live show so that the client is captivated, clearly informed and satisfied that their marketing objectives are being met. We also want you to have a point of view. What shows do you binge? What movie genres are your happy place? What are your guilty-pleasure reality shows? Are you a fantasy/sci-fi/comics nerd? Are you the kind of person friends turn to when they want to know, ''Who was that guy in that movie that played the sarcastic best friend?''
We are a small team, so active participation in group brainstorms is integral to this job. We also do a LOT of sports integrations-particularly NBA and NFL-so deep knowledge about those leagues is a huge plus.
Every day is different at our company, but each task demands creativity, strategy and a good attitude. Projects are constantly evolving, budgets are a moving target, and with several cooks in the kitchen, ideas are prone to be subject to a barrage of changes as they make their way through the pipeline. And of course, talent can kill a script you've been nurturing and editing for a month, so there is an element of rolling with the punches throughout the life of a project.
Our projects deal primarily with big-budget, mainstream properties from the major studios and streamers (think: action tent poles, superhero movies, star-driven comedies, animated family films, big-budget sci-fi, etc.), though there are exceptions-e.g. smaller-budget films/shows, corporate clients, etc. That said, we're looking for a writer who is comfortable writing from different perspectives at any given moment and able to understand what appeals to both broad and niche audiences. You will also be asked to ideate around shifting trends in social media.
Responsibilities:
While not an exhaustive list, below includes essential tasks for the role.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients over video calls, phone calls, and emails.
• Turn work around in a timely manner (often on tight deadlines) and be able to self-manage workload.
• Oversee scriptbook management and perform administrative tasks when absolutely necessary.
• Ideate topline concepts-including fan-oriented Q&A and game-like ideas-for movie marketing campaigns (several per project), with a
strong emphasis on integrations and brand partnerships.
Types of content:
• Fun promo scripts for film studio/streaming service clients, from simple to-camera greetings, to SNL-type sketches, to more complex, stylized custom shoots.
• Detailed treatments based on one-paragraph topline ideas and client notes.
• Scripts at a variety of length: as short as 0:15 or as long as 3:00.
• Humor and drama, depending on client needs.
• Live event run of shows.
• Specific work for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram as well as content for broadcast and traditional outlets.
• And other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• BA in English, Writing, Journalism, Film, or other degree in a similar field.
• Previous writing experience (with samples) in either TV, film, advertising, marketing, copywriting, live events.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• An interest in film and TV with a breadth of knowledge in the industry. Specifically: interests in sports, and/or a passion for DC and Marvel is
ideal but not required.
• Fluency in pop culture and social media trends is also ideal.
• A generally enjoyable human to be around!
