Junior Attorney
Job Purpose:
The junior attorney would serve as legal counsel for Cutting Edge Media Music and its subsidiaries as part of the Business & Legal Affairs Department. Primary responsibilities include drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts in relation to music/television/film related matters under the supervision of more senior attorneys in the department and other executives in the company. The position is based in Beverly Hills and the candidate will report to the head of the Business & Legal Affairs Department and other more senior members of the department, as appropriate.
Nature and Scope:
This position operates within an environment with time constraints and a heavy volume of documents, so the proper candidate must be very well organized, focused, have excellent follow-up skills, and attention to detail. This position has frequent contact with employees from various departments within the company, and the candidate will also need to communicate with external parties on a variety of projects. Lastly, the candidate must be flexible and ready to assist with a multitude of different tasks and help juggle priorities within a small company operating in a fast-paced environment.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Drafting and negotiating of a wide variety of agreements in relation to film and television music production, distribution, and other related matters.
- Contract review to establish chain of title, spot intellectual property or other issues, and pull key terms and components out of existing agreements in order to fill in internal spreadsheets for interdepartmental use.
- Track documents for signature and follow-up.
- Contract administration.
- Completion of various internal administrative schedules, status reports, agendas, etc.
- Legal Research.
- External communication.
Knowledge and Experience:
Four-year college degree and J.D from an ABA - accredited law school.
Bar admission in at least one US state (preferably California)
1-3 years of experience working in an entertainment law firm or legal department of an entertainment company preferred. (Experience via internships considered eligible for this requirement.)
Must have strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong drafting skills.
Must be computer literate in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Macintosh/Windows applications.
Attention to detail and follow through is critical.
The ability to maintain focus, prioritize, and exercise good judgment is important.
Must be able to work well under pressure.
Experience in copyright registration and/or issues is a plus.
Compensation
$60,000.00 USD - $65,000.00 USD per annum (based on experience) + Benefits
*Please note that the junior attorney will be working in-person in the Beverly Hills office three (3) days a week with the option to work remotely for two (2) days of the week (subject to change in the future).
