Job Description:
The Part-Time Associate Copy Desk Editor will work closely with other copy editors to ensure the overall editorial quality, accuracy, and SEO optimization of ESPN-generated written and video content. This role requires assessing content from various sources, including news stories, analysis, push notifications, and video captions, to improve copy, fix errors, and ask questions. The editor will prioritize content based on news value and audience targets.
Key Responsibilities:
• Edit and polish articles, headlines, captions, and link text for accuracy, grammar, style, and SEO.
• Ensure editorial quality across homepage placements, video modules, and alerts.
• Monitor copy flow and assignments as directed by copy desk leadership.
• Work nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.
Basic Requirements:
• Minimum of 1 year of experience editing content at a media outlet.
• Competency in writing, editing, journalism, and SEO fundamentals.
• Appreciation for sports and popular culture and ESPN's audience preferences.
• News journalism experience and strong news judgment.
• Basic understanding of HTML and web authoring tools.
