Job Summary:
The Audio Operator I will provide audio mixing (A1) and/or audio assist (A2) support for live events, studio productions, and pre-recorded material for the ESPN family of networks. As an audio operator (A1), you must be proficient in mixing and monitoring all audio sources, including microphones, music, sound effects, and natural sound. As an audio assist (A2), you should be experienced in configuring in-house intercom/PL communications and dressing talent microphones/IFBs. This role involves maintaining ESPN's high standards of audio presentation and operating broadcast equipment effectively.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee all operational and technical aspects of assigned remote events.
• Operate all broadcast equipment and technology within assigned areas, including audio mixing consoles, outboard equipment, audio & video routing, digital audio delivery servers, microphones, IFBs, mix-minus, and intercom devices.
• Measure audio signals to ensure quality control using comprehensive knowledge of broadcast methods.
• Prioritize and disseminate complex information among crew members to ensure seamless productions.
• Participate in special event coverage and projects as needed.
• Troubleshoot and solve problems effectively, using strong communication to convey issues and resolutions.
• File reports on working conditions and equipment status as requested by management.
• Learn about the workflows of other business units to enhance processes and educate others.
• Participate in training programs for career development and equipment or workflow changes.
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years of practical content production or related experience in the A1 or A2 role at the large market or network level.
• Proficient knowledge of TV production equipment, including audio signal flow, dynamics processing, equalizers, metering, audio & video routers, intercom systems, signal conversion, communications panels, microphones/IFBs.
• Understanding of remote event workflows and terminology.
• Ability to perform under tight deadlines with strong organizational and planning skills in a constantly changing environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and technical acumen to troubleshoot issues.
• Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Flexibility to alter shifts/days off and work overtime, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrable knowledge of broadcast communications equipment.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Regional or national live event and mixing experience.
Required Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Studio Production, or a related field.
