Digital Producer
Location: Albany, NY (Remote or Hybrid possible)
The Times Union newsroom is seeking an enterprising, audience-focused, and versatile journalist to manage and create content serving New York’s Capital Region and beyond. Producers curate and package stories from multiple sources, including the editorial staff, and publish across all digital platforms, including our website, app, newsletters, and social media accounts.
Your duties on the team:
Plan for, post, and package stories on timesunion.com, adding links, photos, and other assets, and sending breaking news alerts.
Monitor website analytics, making content decisions to drive traffic.
Write optimized headlines for search engines and social media.
Contribute to digital projects such as photo galleries, restaurant guides, and real estate spotlights, collaborating with digital project managers, editors, and writers.
Assist the social media manager by posting content on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Skills you bring to the team:
Knowledge of audience-building tactics and engagement best practices.
Ability to generate ideas and collaborate with the team to create compelling regional stories.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Excellent organization, meeting audience needs and deadlines.
Requirements:
Some news writing experience, familiarity with AP Style.
Understanding of media standards, fair use, and citation accuracy.
Proficiency with web and social media analytics, CMS, SEO platforms, and basic HTML.
Video editing for social media.
Strong news judgment, especially regarding local content.
Ability to work in a small team-oriented organization, effectively manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
This full-time role includes evening hours (Tuesday-Friday, noon to 8 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m.); other shifts may be required as news warrants.
Compensation and Benefits:
