Are you someone who believes in being prepared for the worst yet still enjoys life's little quirks?
Hearst Connecticut Media Group is looking for a meteorologist with reporting skills to cover everyday weather, extreme weather events and science.
The ideal candidate will be able to forecast and explain weather phenomena for Connecticut and beyond, report breaking weather news and develop enterprise stories about climate and its impact on how we live. Our readers and viewers are also into celestial events, and we hope you are, too.
Hearst Connecticut Media Group is the state's largest newsroom, with more than 130 journalists covering breaking news, high school and UConn sports, politics, business, statewide issues, food and trending topics.
This is a hybrid position based in Norwalk, Connecticut, and includes regular attendance in the office each week. Must be willing to work occasional weekends and evenings.
Responsibilities:
• Forecast weather events.
• Work with the breaking news team and local reporters during weather events, creating forecasts and data visualizations.
• Work with the data team to collect and present real-time and historic weather data.
• Maintain a calendar of coverage plans for celestial events.
• Report and write enterprise stories on climate and science.
• Make on-camera weather reports for social media.
Qualifications:
• Some experience reporting on extreme weather events.
• Demonstrated ability to lead weather coverage for a general audience.
• Knowledge of weather data.
• Experience analyzing weather data.
• Certification in meteorology or atmospheric science, or intent to gain certification.

The Basics
• This position is full time.
• This position will have a Monday-to-Friday dayside schedule but evening and weekend work may be required as news warrants.
