WGAL-TV, the Hearst Television NBC affiliate located in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA, market has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Technologist. The role of Broadcast Technologist is part of the station Engineering/Tech team responsible primarily for maintaining, repairing, and upgrading equipment utilized in all aspects of our operation from IT systems to cameras and transmitters. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned industry veteran – or even an entry-level candidate with the right mix of skills and interests – to work for a leader in the broadcast industry that has the resources to foster career growth through a combination of training, mentoring, and hands-on experience. You will report to the Chief Engineer.
Responsibilities
The Broadcast Technologist works with the station Engineering team to maintain, repair and upgrade equipment covering all aspects of our operation from acquisition to distribution.
• Proactively maintain Production equipment including studio cameras, production switcher, playout servers, graphic devices, lighting systems, audio consoles and automation systems.
• Facilitate the operation of News gathering equipment such as ENG cameras, field gear, trucks (ENG, CSNG, and SNG), and editing systems.
• Responsible for maintaining remote sites including bureaus, transmitter sites, and microwave receive sites.
• Support IT manager with network infrastructure and end user issues.
• Perform weekly and monthly building and grounds maintenance and facilities upkeep as required, including but not limited to, systems testing, storage organization, event setups/teardowns and studio lighting.
• Complete a wide variety of other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and other physical activity associated with equipment installation, as well as work on rooftops and confined spaces.
• Must have a current driver's license.
• Some experience operating, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic equipment for broadcast and production environments.
• Education in technology or SBE certification will be considered.
• May be required to be ''on-call'' outside of normal working hours.
• Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Bring a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, possess strong problem-solving acumen, good judgment and a desire for excellence.
