The KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 Internship Program is a paid, rigorous and highly competitive hands-on experience that provides individuals the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station.
The programming department is responsible for creating and maintaining program schedules for both KMBC and KCWE. We also monitor programming for our multicast channels – Me-TV, Story TV, True Crime Network and Nosey TV. This role reports to the Programming Manager.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain program grids, work with sales and news to schedule locally produced programming.
• Cultivate working relationships with syndication and network representatives as well as other partners to disseminate information.
• Become familiar with FCC and HTV rules as related to children's programming and legal filings.
• Work with sales during political season to review political spots for approval to air. We also verify accurate uploading to the FCC site all political related documents such as orders and invoices.
• Respond to viewer questions and/or emails re: programming.
Your first day at the station is set aside for orientation which Must be attended. Plan to work three days a week, eight hours each shift with varying schedules. During your internship you should always check in with your assigned advisor upon entering the building. In-person attendance is required.
Securing housing and transportation during the internship are the responsibility of the intern. KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 cannot offer support in this area.
Internship Program Dates:
• Spring 2025 Session: Feb. 3 – Apr. 25, 2025
• Summer 2025 Session: May 19 – Aug. 8, 2025
• Fall 2023 Session: Sept. 15 – Dec. 5, 2025
