Job Title: Media Relations Trainee
Job Summary: Position is responsible for assisting the Media Relations department in the day-to-day preparation for home and road games. Must be physically present in Kansas City from mid-January through mid-October.
Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Write, research and edit daily game notes and minor league report for home and road games
• Compile daily news clips in InDesign to be emailed throughout the organization
• Produce stat pack in InDesign using info provided by MLB Stats Platform for all games
• Copy and distribute daily gameday materials to clubhouses, media and broadcasters for home games
• Assist in the press box and scoreboard room during home games, and serve as a primary fact-checker of Crown Vision, the Hall of Fame board and ribbon boards throughout Kauffman Stadium
• Assist in printing and distributing daily media credentials
• Proofread the media guide and contribute to the season summary
• Assist with additional statistical projects throughout the season
Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• Experience with Statspass, TruMedia, Baseball Reference's Stathead and/or MLB Stats Platform is preferred
• Must be proficient in Microsoft computer applications, including Excel spreadsheets and Adobe InDesign
• Must have knowledge of the game of baseball, including expansive statistical understanding and the ability to translate that understanding into game note form
• Excellent writing and editing skills are a must
• Experience with the MLB Credential site is preferred
• Work hours include holidays, weekends and evenings
• Ability to prioritize, organize and plan work under own initiative
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift items weighing as much as 15 pounds
• Must be able to work in a seated position for majority of workday
• Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer keyboard and telephone
• Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
• Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus
• Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
• Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
