Kansas City Royals Trainee Program
The Kansas City Royals Trainee Program is designed for applicants interested in the sports and entertainment industry, particularly professional sports. The Royals are seeking applicants with various backgrounds, educations, and experiences to create a valuable community of learning opportunities from front office staff as well as from one another. The Trainee Program intends to cultivate a network of young professionals dedicated to developing their career and supporting the careers of those around them.
Job Summary: We are looking for a Photography Trainee to collaborate with our Team Photographer to capture the excitement, emotion, and fun around the Kansas City Royals baseball organization.
Accountabilities:
Gameday and Events:
• Work with Team Photographer to capture all daily business needs, including corporate signage, pre-game on-field ceremonies, first pitches, National Anthems, flag raisers, fan experience, and batting practice visits
• Perform multiple duties during events or games, including card running, live ingestion of photos, captioning and keywording photos, editing photos, taking photos for multiple departmental or team needs, photo gear transport, lighting assistance, and any other photo or video needs deemed necessary
• Shoot non-gameday photography, including press conferences, community outreach activities, pre- and post-game activities, concerts, hospitality events, and/or team photo
• Fulfill internal photo requests from Corporate Sales, Ticket Sales, website, and social media
• Color correct all images for use in print, web, and social media materials
• Input metadata on all images with photo captioning, naming, and tagging for future searching capabilities
Photo Management:
• Create, maintain, and oversee digital photo archiving system
• Ensure photo archiving system is primary resource for all organizations photo assets (Libris Photoshelter)
• Maintain photo archives, including editing, tagging, cataloging, and scanning all current and historical imagery
Qualifications:
• A portfolio demonstrating a track record of delivering creative and effective photography is required
• Candidate owns one or more DSLR or mirrorless camera bodies and a selection of basic lenses that include at least a 70-200mm or longer lens as one of the options
• A larger option of lenses available and a firm understanding to their appropriate use will be considered in part as a determining factor to the final selection of all applicants
• A minimum of 1-2 years' professional experience. Sports or live events experience is a plus
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively and flexibly collaborate at all levels of the organization
• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills-must be comfortable with engaging in a variety of different communicative modes and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom)-additional experience in Photo Mechanic, Bridge, Photoshelter and/or other workflow and archiving programs is a plus
• Ensure work is in line with style guides and branding for the Kansas City Royals and our partners
• Must be able to easily switch between projects comfortably and quickly
• Must possess a strong ability to manage one's own time, seek clarification when uncertain, and prioritize tasks when given clearly defined goals and objectives
• Must have the ability to demonstrate uncompromised judgment, sensitivities, and discretion with regard to interpersonal relationships
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality and use upmost discretion when privy to sensitive information
• Successful candidate will have knowledge of the MLB, its teams, players, history, rules, and the game of baseball
• Ability to apply an entrepreneurial approach to work and have a positive and upbeat attitude
• Must have the ability and willingness to work flexible hours (i.e., nights and weekends around games)
• Must be flexible and reliable team player, both within own department and within company as a whole
Physical/Environment Requirements:
• Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work requires weekend and/or evening work whenever there are games or events scheduled.
• Gameday: Job requires employee to function in a high-activity, heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or sit and must be able to lift and move up to 45 pounds.
