KTXL FOX40 News is seeking a Sports Reporter/MMJ to be part of our growing team covering Northern California sports.
We are committed to producing compelling sports content on all platforms. We believe it is a core part of our mission to provide hyper-local coverage and connect with the diverse communities we serve.
The ideal candidate should have the ability to enterprise relevant, unique, creative content and build strong connections with high school, community, collegiate and professional athletic organizations.
You should also have outstanding live reporting skills and the ability to fill-in anchor.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Write, produce, and present sportscasts and stories in an interesting, engaging way, appealing to both hard-core and casual fans
• Arrange and conduct interviews
• Assist in the writing, editing, researching and production of sports content generated by others
• Build network of sources that will enable FOX40 News to stay ahead of its competitors
• Research topics, vet tips for credibility and relevance, gather information for possible broadcast and publication
• Display knowledge of teams, players, and storylines, especially those relevant to the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto market
• Respond to breaking sports news and events and other situations as required
• Enterprise unique, original stories that differentiate our coverage from others
• Work closely with other members of the Sports team to develop comprehensive coverage plans
• Promote teamwork and maintain attitude of cooperation and collaboration with all station personnel
• Shoot video
• Edit video for television broadcasts and digital platforms
• Write content for website and other digital platforms
• Interact with viewers and users on social media
• Collaborate with Digital staff to make sure website, mobile app and social media are updated with timely, relevant content
• Ensure all sports content meets station and company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Participate in promotional activities including public appearances and community service events
REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS:
• Two years anchoring or reporting local sports for television
• General knowledge of all local and regional teams at the high school, college and professional levels
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required
• Superior on-air presence
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Social media expertise, proficiency
• Knowledge of current newsgathering technology, including video cameras, editing equipment and newsroom computer systems
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Flexibility to work any shift
Salary: $66,000+ commensurate with experience and skill level
