Position Title: Spring 2025: Legal Extern – Corporate Legal Department
Location: Burbank, CA
Reporting To: Director, Business & Legal Affairs, Corporate Legal
Program Dates: January 21, 2025 – April 25, 2025 (Part-Time)
Summary:
We are seeking a Legal Extern to join our Corporate Legal department. This externship provides a unique opportunity for law students interested in the entertainment industry to gain hands-on experience. The extern will support both transactional and litigation matters, working closely with attorneys, paralegals, and business units throughout the company. The ideal candidate will be passionate about business and legal aspects of entertainment and will be pursuing a JD degree at an accredited law school.
Responsibilities:
• Review and summarize contracts related to film, television, and digital media production, financing, and distribution.
• Gain exposure to business deals and legal structures in film development, production, licensing, distribution, and merchandising.
• Assist with drafting and revising contracts, including non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), employment agreements, and licensing agreements.
• Conduct research on contractual rights, obligations, and other legal issues, preparing comprehensive legal analyses.
• Support litigation efforts, including case management, research, and assisting with adversarial proceedings.
• Work on special projects as assigned by supervising attorneys, providing legal support on a range of business functions including finance, human resources, and IT.
• Participate in departmental meetings, gaining insight into the operational aspects of entertainment law.
Requirements
• Currently enrolled in a JD program at an accredited law school.
• Must be in at least the second year of law school.
• GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Interest in transactional entertainment law, with some coursework or experience in contract law preferred.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Proactive, with the ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated passion for the entertainment industry.
