ABOUT THE POSITION
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure Interactive Digital Media & Animation Professor commencing with the Fall 2022 semester. The Digital and Media Arts (DMA) area within LBCC's Visual and Media Arts Department is seeking a candidate for a tenure track faculty in the field of Interactive Media, Animation & Games. We will consider a range of candidates from areas such as interaction design, animation, and multimedia arts, but are looking specifically for experienced candidates with backgrounds in game art and design. Qualified candidates are knowledgeable of the intersections between game design and other areas, especially cinema, narrative, genre, branding, and experience. They should demonstrate deep appreciation for how games and play intersect with the arts and culture.
The position will teach gaming, interaction, animation, multimedia, and digital art production with a focus on best practices of prototyping, play testing, iteration, presentation, and collaboration. They will help students to create, brand, and present game designs, stories, characters, and animations through both digital media and traditional formats such as card and tabletop. DMA faculty will help to develop and maintain curriculum for specialized certificate programs, and they will also contribute to the broader AA and ADT programs in the VMA department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, OR
an Associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR
meet equivalent qualifications established by the District.
