Title: Community Affairs Specialist, Youth, Education & Culture
Department: Government & Community Affairs
Reports to: Manager, Community Affairs
Status: Full Time
Pay Rate: $28.00 - $30.00/hour*
*Compensation rates vary based on job-related factors, including experience, job skills, education, and training.
The Youth, Education & Culture Specialist will work on a range of the Dodgers community affairs outreach efforts and activities. The lead will be responsible for all youth, education and cultural programs including but not limited to, Kids4Dodger, LA Reads, Step up to the Plate, Community of Schools Initiative, Commissioners Community Initiative and MLB Player Give Back programs. In addition, this person will continue to update and modify programs for relevancy and to ensure increased impacts year over year.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee the teams' educational programs and relationships including:
• Collaborations with LAUSD, other local School Districts and educational non-profits;
• Back to School initiatives and activations; and
• Step Up to the Plate Attendance Program
• In coordination with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation staff, plan and execute literacy program ''LA Reads'' which includes the annual program launch, monthly winner recognitions during the season, and monthly digital literacy activations
• Plan and execute all aspects of the Kids4Dodger baseball program which impacts twenty thousand LA area youth annually
• Oversee implementation of MLB Educational Youth Programming including the Shred Hate/No Bully initiative, Summer Slugger program, and Breaking Barriers Essay Contest
• Coordinate mentorship programs and career days
• Coordinate pregame community activities related to annual cultural heritage night ticket packs (e.g., Mexican Heritage Night, Black Heritage Night, Korean Heritage Night, Armenian Heritage night, etc.)
• Track data and impacts for all Community initiatives within your purview.
• Provide weekly detailed reports on program areas, including but not limited to quantifiable analysis of program impacts on an ongoing basis.
• Update Yearbook and Media Guide sections related to your program areas annually.
• Prepare pre-event planning checklists and memos in a timely fashion
• Prepare briefing memos for all events and after-action reports at the conclusion of the event
• Manage, process, fulfill, and review external in-kind donation requests for non-profits, schools, and other community programs
• Collaborate with the Dodgers Public Relations department to identify appropriate opportunities to promote community and charitable efforts
• Prepare web copy updates in a timely fashion
• Assist with pre-game and game day on-field activities including batting practice visits, meet and greet visits, auction experiences, and player support as needed
• Manage individual program budgets and expenses
• Support the Manager and department as needed
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other variable hours as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements/Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree Required
• Bilingual English/Spanish (verbal and written) preferred
• Minimum two to three years' experience in community relations/outreach, non-profit organization, or related field
• Proven ability to successfully manage an event from start to finish – from ideation through execution of the event/program
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and maintain flexibility when working on multiple projects with conflicting deadlines
• Goal oriented, self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work in tandem with internal and external customers (residents, civic and business leaders, volunteers) with a positive customer service attitude
• Able to work independently, creatively, with initiative and accurately within specific deadlines
• Ability to work efficiently in a large communal front office atmosphere and work collaboratively within a team environment
• Possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Innovative and creative, with a proven ability to think outside the box
