House Technician

This is a Part Time Job

Mosesian Center for the Arts (MCA), located at the Arsenal on the Charles in Watertown, seeks a House Technician to provide various technical support for in-house-produced and rental performances and events including theater, music, comedy, film, lectures, and discussions.

The House Technician is a part-time position with a variable schedule averaging 10-15 hours per week. This is a casual, non-benefited, non-exempt employee position. The position reports to the Director of Theater Operations and Facilities.

Responsibilities
· Become familiar with the inventory of MCA's technical equipment (audio, lighting, video, rigging, staging) and its operation
· Communicate with rental companies and producers regarding technical needs and staffing
· Supervise load-ins, strikes, and load-outs as necessary
· Assist with scheduling overhires as needed for performances and events
· Make recommendations regarding maintenance, repair, and/or replacement of equipment and purchase of supplies

Qualifications
· Specialized knowledge and experience in at least one area of technical theater and familiarity with others
· Knowledge and adherence to theatrical stage safety practices and procedures
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with producing companies and individuals
· Ability to organize, train, and supervise small crews as necessary
· Subject to availability, ability to dependably work a flexible schedule with availability on evenings and weekends

Physical Requirements
· Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time
· Must be able to work effectively using ladders, lifts, and scaffolding
· Must be comfortable working at heights and able to move heavy equipment

Salary and Benefits
· $30-35 per hour
· Opportunity to enroll in one complimentary class per educational term, subject to availability and class proceeding with sufficient enrollment
· Complimentary membership at Arsenal on the Charles (AOTC) campus fitness center, subject to this benefit being continued by AOTC

Organization
Mosesian Center for the Arts is a performing and visual arts venue on the Charles River in Watertown, Massachusetts. The 30,000 square foot facility, located in an historic 1894 manufacturing shop on a former U.S. Army arsenal, houses a 339-seat main stage theater, a flexible black box theater, exhibition galleries, art classrooms, and a rehearsal studio. Mosesian Arts is located six miles from downtown Boston, borders Brighton and the Charles, and is easily accessible from surrounding suburbs and MetroWest.

Programming includes professional theater and musical performances, comedy, gallery exhibitions, literary and art discussions, and performing and visual arts classes and workshops for all ages. Watertown Children's Theatre, Mosesian Arts' performing arts education program, provides exceptional classes and performances for youth and families. The venue also hosts celebrated and cutting-edge performing arts companies from throughout the Greater Boston region and New England.
