ROLE SUMMARY: Burbank, CA
MSG is looking for a Production Manager to join a groundbreaking post-production department based in Los Angeles. As the content delivery team for all MSG Sphere projects, we strive to create world-class experiences at an unprecedented scale for the largest LED screens ever made.
Working in collaboration across the MSG post-production ecosystem, this role directly supports all departmental staffing needs as the MSG Sphere Los Angeles facility expands. The ideal Production Manager is a natural multitasker with knowledge of the technical capabilities of artists and technicians who will be filling positions across previz, production, editorial, color, sound, layout, stitching, photogrammetry, compositing, pipeline architecture, production technology software development, and beyond.
Specific Functions/Activities SUMMARY:
- Liaise with Production, Creative, and Post.
- Verify and enforce compliance with all federal, state, union, and governmental policies and regulations as well as all production policies.
- Budget creation, management, and reconciliation.
- Work effectively with creative, production, and administrative teams while continuing to produce physical production.
- Oversee project-based freelance staff and crew to ensure product quality and act as an internal resource regarding company policies and procedures.
- Serve as an on-site manager, liaison with vendors, troubleshoot, and manage logistics.
- Interface with various internal departments to assist with production and logistics.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills along with the ability to work under pressure and make quick, educated decisions in compliance with company policies.
- Creative problem-solving and the ability to multi-task.
- Oversee tracking of deliverables during production, including call sheets, schedules, travel itineraries, etc.
- Flexibility in working hours, with the ability to work nights and weekends as needed; some travel required.
- Working knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and Guidelines surrounding both Union and Non-Union Labor and OSHA.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners across the organization.
- Stay updated on the latest trends, tools, and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree preferred or additional production certificate programs.
- Minimum of five years of experience as a VFX, studio, network, or post-production facility scheduler.
- Skilled in using Movie Magic Budgeting, Excel, SharePoint, Smartsheet, PowerPoint, and other scheduling software.
- Comfortable engaging with executives, Supervisors, Leads, and artists.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills (oral and written). Must be a team player and work well under tight deadlines.
SUPERVISION:
- The Production Manager will report to the Sr Producer, working closely with Production and post-production management and creative development teams.
- The role requires a self-directed “production-minded” work ethic, helping to establish the language and medium of Sphere.
- As the team grows, there is potential for expansion and direct reports to manage.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
At the time of this posting, the MSG Sphere studio is operating in accordance with local guidance on safe Covid-19 regulations. A remote work-from-home onboarding to MSG Sphere work is likely. While the studio technology team will support remote work, MSG is seeking applicants local to Los Angeles with the eventual expectation of working on-site in our Burbank location.
