JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sr Manager of Communications for National Geographic Documentary Films is responsible for delivering well-executed campaigns that result in press coverage, industry praise, and awards buzz for documentary features and short films. The Sr Manager will work within the Communications team to create, strategize and execute publicity and awards plans to support distribution of a wide range of documentaries.
Responsibilities:
• The Sr Manager will work closely with the communications team to create, strategize and execute publicity and awards plans to support distribution of a wide range of documentaries.
• This position is responsible for nurturing strong media contacts with national and local print, broadcast and online outlets.
• Daily tasks include, but are not limited to: developing specific and detailed strategies from theatrical release to television broadcast, including awards positioning; driving festival strategy and creating campaigns for top tier film festivals; pitching, booking, and covering interviews (both via phone and in-person); writing and editing press materials; developing talking points and drafting remarks; managing budgets.
• Well executed campaigns that result in press coverage, industry praise, and awards buzz.
• This position is responsible for maintaining strong communications and relationships with filmmakers, internal and external producers, and various freelancers, agencies and vendors to ensure the flow of information and identify PR and awards opportunities.
• Effective leadership, direction and management of the campaign, and strong relationships with the film team.
• The Sr Manager will also be responsible for planning and overseeing key events, in partnership with our events team and/or agency partners, including theatrical premieres and FYC events.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree and 10 years of related experience in Public relations or communications.
• Strong contacts within the Film or Doc space
• Strong team player with exceptional strategic planning, communications (written and oral) and strong storyteller skills across channels (print, TV, byline, blog, video), collaboration skills, problem solving and ability to master multi-tasking working in a fast-paced environment
• Strong ownership and accountability – able to roll-up your sleeves and to take ownership to make things happen. Ease of work style to do and lead others to effective outcomes.
• Able to thrive in a highly agile, fast-paced environment with multiple workstreams and tight deadlines. • Global mindset and experience working across geographies, cultures and time zones
