NBC News Digital is seeking a talented journalist with expertise in visual and interactive design to join the team. This role focuses on creating graphics, charts, and interactive content to support the newsroom's storytelling.
Responsibilities:
• Create data-driven charts, diagrams, and visuals on request and within deadlines
• Collaborate with reporters, editors, and visual journalists to develop visual angles for breaking news and feature stories
• Expand visual storytelling across NBC News Digital's platforms, including the website, app, and social media
• Work efficiently under tight deadlines to deliver high-quality visuals
Daily Tasks:
• Turn data from reporters into charts, diagrams, or illustrations using tools like D3, Datawrapper, or Illustrator
• Assist science reporters in data analysis using Excel, Google Sheets, Python, or R
• Lay out large-scale interactive pages with Figma or Illustrator
• Develop web-based projects using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Work in a hybrid role with three days a week in the newsroom at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a newsroom or creating news graphics
• Expertise in designing, developing, and implementing visual information and interactive data visualizations
• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and experience using Git for version control
• Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Mapbox, ai2html, Leaflet, Illustrator, and D3.js
• Experience building mobile-friendly graphics and designs
