Reporting into the Sr. Manager, Business & Legal Affairs, the Editor is responsible for ensuring that program content and advertisements are in compliance with internal and external standards, laws, and regulations while considering public policy and community acceptability. We seek a highly professional individual with a proactive nature, strong people skills, and the ability to solve problems creatively and collaboratively. Excellent communication and diplomatic skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment are essential. The role also requires proactive monitoring and analysis of department processes, while developing and implementing innovative ideas. This position is based in our Telemundo Headquarters, and will be expected to effectively collaborate with colleagues from coast to coast due to our bicoastal subdivision.
Job Duties:
• Review advertisements for Telemundo properties, from concept to final edit, to ensure they meet internal brand standards and regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate various marketing, scientific, and other data submitted supporting advertising claims.
• Review advertising and programming materials and provide clear, practical guidance to clients in line with Telemundo and NBCUniversal's standards and FTC, FDA, CARU, and FCC rules and regulations.
• Review various scripted and unscripted programs at all production stages to ensure compliance with broadcast standards for airing on Telemundo.
• Negotiate and collaborate with internal and external parties in the creative community, including programming executives, writers, producers, creative agencies, Telemundo NBCUniversal Ad Sales, advertising agency representatives, and legal counsel.
• Operate the broadcast delay mechanism for live programming as necessary, including outside regular working hours, on holidays, and weekends.
• Proactively monitor and analyze department systems and processes. Assist in developing and implementing innovative ideas to improve workflow.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• BA/BS degree or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in Standards and Practices (Program and Advertising) for a broadcast and cable network.
Desired Characteristics:
• Degree in Media Production is an advantage.
• Knowledge of legal issues applicable to program and advertising review, including familiarity with FCC, FTC, and FDA rules and regulations.
• Excellent analytic, negotiation, and time management skills, with superior attention to detail.
• Self-starter who can work independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities while juggling multiple responsibilities.
• Effective team player with good interpersonal skills.
• Able to handle strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
• Familiarity with Avid MediaCental, Frame i.o, Idea2air, Studio System, MediaVu, and MediaQurator is a plus.
Additional Requirements:
• This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
• Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
• Fluency in Spanish (both written & verbal).
• Must be willing to work in Miami, FL
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
