Universal Filmed Entertainment Group: (UFEG) consists of the operations to produce, acquire, market and distribute filmed entertainment worldwide in various media formats for theatrical, home entertainment, television and other distribution platforms. Universal Studio Group: (USG) encompasses NBCUniversal’s television production studios: Universal Television (UTV), Universal Content Productions (UCP), NBCUniversal International Studio, and Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS). USG produces over 100 scripted and unscripted series across multiple countries around the globe for buyers in broadcast, cable, and streaming. Network partners include NBC, Peacock, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple, HBO, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, CTV, ABC, FOX, and ABC among many others.
Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:
• Corporate Legal Rotational: The NBCU Legal Function is hosting a Legal Rotational Experience for law students interested in Entertainment Law. This program is designed to positively impact diversity in the legal profession. The Legal Rotational Experience will be a program that provides training, exposure, and opportunities to law students. Interns will work in one Corporate Legal group and one Business Legal group during the course of the 10 week internship. Responsibilities may include assisting team members with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of legal agreements, providing timely and thorough analysis on potential risks and issues while proposing practical, responsive solutions, and identifying and implementing improvements to forms and processes.
• Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs: NBCUniversal Music Business & Legal Affairs services an array of clients in the Film & Television portfolios. Filmed Entertainment encompasses the Universal Pictures Group, Focus Features, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and Brand Development. The overall landscape of Film includes distinct business functions that each touch a key segment area in the overall lifecycle of a film, from ideation to premiere. On the TV side, there is a vast portfolio of sports, news networks, streaming, entertainment networks, and significant television production operations, including scripted, alternative and late night, and a leading television stations group. This intern’s responsibilities may include the following: researching music rights, analyzing and summarizing music deal terms, drafting music talent agreements, reviewing production content for music information, and assisting with tracking rights, analysis, and grid maintenance.
• Global Distribution and International Business & Legal Affairs: NBCUniversal Global Distribution is responsible for the distribution of NBCUniversal product to all forms of television and new media in the U.S. and internationally. This includes a rich library of more than 4,000 feature films and 100,000 television episodes, including current and classic titles, non-scripted programming, long-form and short-form programming, and locally produced content from around the world. Global Distribution and International is a division of Comcast NBCUniversal. The Business and Legal Affairs team supports the Global Distribution Sales team by providing ongoing counsel, advice, and legal documentation related to business and legal issues. An intern in our department will work on various licensing agreements and other contracts related to the licensing of film and television content to various platforms. Through this experience, interns will be exposed to lawyers, sales executives, marketing, and technology experts and various legal matters.
• Universal Studio Group Legal Affairs: Interns will assist show lawyers with vetting television show scripts for legal risks, making clearance determinations for production-related materials, and other issue-spotting and analysis. Interns will also conduct legal research on issues that may arise during the production of both unscripted and scripted television shows.
• Universal Studio Group Business Affairs: Interns will review deal memos, agreements, and other correspondence, abstract pertinent fee-related details from those documents, summarize relevant deal points, update Salesforce with fee information, and more.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2025 through August 2025). May 2025 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2025 Internship Program.
• Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
• Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
Desired Characteristics
• Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Self-starter, professional, and ability to adapt.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.)
• For Corporate Legal: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Current class standing of 1L or above preferred.
