Netflix is the fastest growing, most productive, and progressive film studio in Hollywood and, Netflix Animation Studios, as one of its major arms, is making a huge impact.
Music Creative & Production (MCP) provides premiere music support to our productions and Netflix cross-functional partners by leveraging relationships and guiding the music creative, scoring, and budgeting process from development to launch. Our goal is to empower Netflix to entertain the world by deepening fan engagement and amplifying storytelling through music.
The successful candidate will excel at identifying and implementing cross-functional creative music solutions that will support our animation productions and overall slate. This role will report to a Music Creative Manager that supports the Animated Series verticals, including Preschool, Kids & Family, and Adult Animation Action.
Responsibilities:
• Read and break down incoming scripts for music needs, flagging upcoming cue types and potential licensing issues
• In alignment with Music Creative Manager, creatively recommend composers, music supervisors, and songwriters for series projects
• Weigh in on budget conversations as it pertains to music throughout development/production/post
• In alignment with Music Creative Manager, liaise with agents/reps during the personnel hiring process, ensuring key dates, project information, and watermarked materials are distributed
• Prepare and distribute onboarding materials to music supervisors and composers
• Make appropriate introductions between production and music personnel
• Attend regular check-ins with music supervisors/composers, taking relevant notes and connecting with Manager on action items
• Flag vocal moments to Music Production Manager and work in tandem with production on an appropriate approach
• Maintain and update internal music budget with actuals, in conjunction with Music Production Manager
• Review cuts on PIX, flagging unaddressed music needs/clearance issues as they arise
• Maintain consistent communication between Business and Legal Affairs/Music Licensing
• Align with Post, Music Clearance & Licensing, and Localization on subtitling/dubbing plans, sourcing lyrics/lead sheets when requested
• Update MCP Series AirTable with new talent information (composers, supervisors, songwriters, music editors, etc.) and project tracking updates
• Maintain organization of MCP project folders
• Ensure/help facilitate the upload of music deliverables into archival tools
• Support and collaborate with creative marketing, Music Business Development, awards, and/or publicity on ancillary music opportunities (events, soundtracks, etc.)
• Attend show-specific/studio meetings/check-ins and provide music updates; concisely synthesize contents of meetings back to Animated Series MCP department
• Highlight topline wells, not wells/challenges, and topics for discussion in MCP meetings
Skills and Qualifications:
• Possessing a keen musical ear and background to assess creative excellence on scores and original songs and provide specific feedback where appropriate
• Knowledge in the music talent space - songwriters, producers, composers, agents
• Knowledge of and passion for animated content and music in general
• Knowledge of the music industry, digital streaming platforms, music publishing, music licensing, record labels, PROs
• Comfortability being project and talent facing
• Highly organizational and comfortable creating and maintaining systems
• Team player with the ability to prioritize, respond, pivot quickly, think practically, positively, and be solution-oriented
• Ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information
• Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably on multiple projects under tight time frames in a fast-paced production environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to multitask
• Open to suggestions and feedback
• Exercises good judgment and initiative when making decisions

• Proficiency in Google Workspace and Project Management Tools (Slack, Asana)
• Adaptable to learning, leading, and training on Netflix proprietary software and technology
