This is a Full Time Job

ROLE: Individual will coordinate daily news coverage on broadcast and digital platforms, maintain assignment desk functions, organize field assignments and plan coverage to support FOX 5/KUSI's news brand.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for listening to scanners
• Dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories
• Tracks stories from several outlets such as government agencies, wire services, social media
• Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories
• Keeps newsroom informed of story developments throughout day
• Answers phones and email to determine what makes a great story
• Coordinates live shots and content sharing with Nexstar affiliates, FOX, and other partners
• Posts stories to station website and social media sites
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Contribute to our digital platforms by writing and or editing stories
• Find and develop stories that fit each stations brand

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or communications background or previous newsroom experience preferred
• Knowledge of the San Diego area a plus
• Understanding of integrated communications, including role of emerging technologies ''within traditional and non- traditional'' channels

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have superior organizational skills
• Must be able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks at once
• Must be able to make quick decisions and take a leadership role
• Must be able to work with different personal styles and approaches
• Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Must be able to direct the efforts of reporters, photographers
• Must be able to operate as a team member as well as a team leader
• Must be able to take suggestions, participate in decision-making, and be flexible in recognizing various points of view
• Must be willing to work on weekends, holidays and overnight hours as needed

Compensation – Starting at $23/hr commensurate with experience and skill level.
