NPR’s Newshub team seeks a temporary Editor I, Digital to optimize and distribute digital storytelling content, ensuring it reaches and resonates with audiences. This 12-week position focuses on digital audience strategy, including managing third-party platforms and responding to breaking news events.
Key Responsibilities:
• Draft and edit headlines, social media summaries, and push notifications.
• Distribute journalism via platforms like Apple News and Flipboard.
• Perform keyword research and provide SEO recommendations.
• Monitor social and search trends to inform story assignments.
• Write and edit web and social media content with accuracy and voice under deadline.
• Use real-time analytics to guide decisions and improve audience engagement.
• Ensure all content adheres to NPR’s standards of accuracy and fairness.
• Respond flexibly to shifting priorities and breaking news.
• Work weekends and evenings as news demands.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 3+ years editing and managing branded social accounts under deadlines, ideally in a news organization.
• Experience in journalism, writing, and editing for digital platforms.
• Strong grasp of AP Style and excellent news judgment.
• Ability to multitask under strict time constraints.
• Collaborative and independent work capability.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a writing-intensive discipline, or equivalent experience.
Work Location:
• Remote permitted or based in Washington, DC.
