OVERVIEW
INTRO TO POSITION
The temporary Prospect Research Associate will join the Development Operations team at a critical time. The role will assist with the efforts of proactively identifying opportunities for prospect identification and qualification. NPR's updated fundraising strategy encompasses digital philanthropy, annual giving, and the NPR Network initiative, alongside a robust major gifts and grants program. Additionally a new mid-level giving strategy is taking shape and this position will help document new processes and support the launch of the program. Role provides support for and reports directly to the Senior Research Manager, and will support research requests from assigned fundraisers to support the philanthropic efforts of the organization as well as events. Role will also assist with routine Salesforce maintenance and hygiene, and update processes and procedures for efficiency. Ideal candidates will have Salesforce experience and an understanding of philanthropic research with the ability to learn and problem solve.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the preparation of background summaries for prospective donors and trustees that provide interests, university affiliations, and estimates of financial capacity to guide the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies by development officers
• Conducts reactive research and prepares briefing materials for events and meetings
• Assesses capacity, interest, philanthropy and relationships to qualify the viability of prospects and/or donors
• Identifies potential foundation prospects from external sources including but not limited to, Foundation Directory and Chronicle of Philanthropy
• Coordinate entry of contact reports, prospect strategies, substantive actions and information updates
• Assist with regular portfolio review meetings
• Identify areas of need in Salesforce to build out mid-level giving program, actively participate in documenting program recommendations and align work between Development Operations and the Individual Giving team
• Perform Salesforce maintenance and hygiene tasks as well as build simple reports for Division fundraisers as needed

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience required
• 1-2 years of experience in in a nonprofit setting or with Salesforce, research experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to pursue large volumes of information and find the details relevant to fundraising
• Demonstrated skill in utilizing multiple electronic resources such as Lexis/Nexis, iWave, WealthEngine, ResearchPoint or Foundation Search to locate and compile philanthropic giving, business and biographic information
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
• Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce and Google Drive required
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
WORK LOCATION
This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.
JOB TYPE
This is a full time, temporary position running from August 1, 2024 - March 5, 2025, with the possibility of extension.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Range: The U.S. based anticipated hourly range for this opportunity is $31.00 to $33.00 per hour plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
