Pacers Sports & Entertainment is seeking a Mad Ants Basketball Communications & Community Engagement Manager. They will be tasked with keeping the Mad Ants top of mind in Noblesville and Hamilton County, identifying new opportunities to showcase the team in the media and in the community. Our ideal candidate is forward-thinking and highly motivated with the ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities and needs of the business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead all basketball communications for the Mad Ants including but not limited to:
• Pitching stories
• Coordinating team interviews (including pre- and post-workout)
• Coordinating press conferences
• Developing media relationships
• Writing media advisories and press releases
• Producing game notes and recaps
• Producing content for Mad Ants Game Day program and newsletter
• Managing media passes and credentials
• Identifying new press or media opportunities
• Provide game-day information to the Mad Ants coaching staff including officials, starters, injury reports, etc.
• Provide game-day information to the Mad Ants broadcast staff including team personnel, records, notes, updates, etc.
• Build strong working relationships with NBA G League staff, PR representatives from other G League teams, and PS&E communications staff.
• Manage scorer's table during Mad Ants home games including serving as the direct liaison to the NBA for scoring issues and system knowledge.
• Manage Mad Ants stat crew including hiring, training, scheduling, etc.
• Maintain, update, and catalog the Mad Ants collection of memorabilia for fan giveaways, gift basket requests, and corporate partner giveaways.
• Ideate and develop community-based initiatives for the Mad Ants including but not limited to youth basketball camps, school-based reading programs, and more.
• Plan and coordinate annual open tryouts.
• Collaborate closely with PS&E Digital Marketing team regarding social media management, video content, website management, etc.
• Collaborate closely with PS&E Creative Services team regarding graphic design needs including but not limited to print projects, theme jerseys, etc.
• Collaborate closely with PS&E Marketing & Brand team regarding theme night development / planning and other fan engagement initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with PS&E Game Operations team regarding in-arena needs, presentations, or ad reads for Mad Ants home games.
• Must be able to attend Mad Ants practices and games as needed, including road trips and away games.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related area of study.
• At least three years of work experience in communications, public relations, media relations, marketing, community engagement, or related area. Experience in professional or collegiate sports is highly preferred.
• Excellent written communication skills with an ability to edit written content and write clearly for headlines / photo captions under tight deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication skills with an ability to sell ideas to peers, executives, and members of the media.
• Experience with graphic design (including Adobe Creative Suite), photography / videography, and social media tools (including ad managers) is highly preferred.
• Impeccable attention to detail.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and manage competing priorities.
• Ability to maintain a professional journalistic relationship with players and coaches.
