Payroll Tax Manager

Overview & Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Tax Manager to join our dynamic Payroll team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of payroll tax laws and regulations, exceptional analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements while optimizing our payroll tax processes.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for timely and accurate remittance of Federal, State, and Local payroll taxes for US entities doing business in multiple states and localities to third-party vendor
• Responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the data provided to third-party vendor
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of W2 wages and withholdings for all entities, including reconciliation of third-party vendor files/reports to source Responsible for completeness and accuracy of master data within the payroll system with respect to withholding and unemployment rates, calculations, and reporting
• Communication with regulatory agencies on registrations, audits, and changes in tax filing status or requirements
• Responsible for research, documentation and communication of all tax-related regulatory changes to appropriate parties including operations and technology teams
• Manage tax audits for all entities
• Monthly reconciliation of payroll balance sheet accounts
• Manage preparation, reconciliation, and presentation of data related to periodic insurance renewals
• Provide analytical assistance to divisional accounting departments for matters related to payroll liability accounts
• Manage the process to add or deactivate jurisdictions for all entities including divisional entities on external payroll
• Responsible for review and approval of Forms W-2C and amendment of associated payroll tax returns
• Research and respond to payroll tax related inquiries from employees, agencies, and other third parties
• Provide support to third-party provider on unemployment insurance matters
• Act as liaison with Treasury Department regarding transfers of all related payroll tax payments
• Manage tax-related testing of all payroll system upgrades and enhancements prior to production implementation, including documenting of test scenarios and scripts
• Act as a subject matter expert/lead on payroll tax compliance for system-related projects
• Special projects as assigned
• Participate in to learn best practices and upcoming legislative changes
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in payroll tax management role, with a proven track record of managing payroll tax compliance for a large multi-state organization
• Integrity in decision-making and handling of sensitive information Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines effectively
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel skills
• Proactive with meticulous follow-up skills
• Effective in building collaborative relationships across the organization and external stakeholders including auditors, vendors, and regulatory agency representatives
• Experience with a large-scale HCM system required

• Experience with ADP Smart Compliance or other third-party provider preferred
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $103,500.00 - 125,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
Salary/Benefits
$103,500.00 - 125,000.00 per year
