We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). This position will be a proven business leader with demonstrated expertise in both digital and traditional marketing functions. This individual will lead all marketing efforts and will collaborate with executives across all departments, including the teams, to develop and execute successful initiatives and navigate all marketing and media platforms. This role will serve as a strategic and creative team leader with an intimate knowledge of audiences, user needs, attitudes, behaviors, trends, and the ability to drive strategic planning across multiple marketing channels to achieve business goals as the CMO will play a vital role in the organization’s growth and have important responsibilities that range from creative influence on business strategy. They will work with the marketing team and the cross-functional partners to bring the brand to life and shape the messaging, creativity, and overall brand presence for the Phoenix Suns (NBA), Phoenix Mercury (WNBA), and Footprint Center (Arena). The CMO will provide a commercial lens to support all marketing efforts to drive revenue and fan engagement. The role requires the ability to lead and mentor a team and drive influence across the organization.
What Will You Do:
• Develop and plan the short- and long-term marketing vision and direction for the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Footprint Center brand and lead a team of brand marketers to deliver on a multi-faceted marketing and brand strategy focused on enhancing revenue and brand opportunities across all teams.
• Oversee all aspects of marketing planning, budgeting, metrics and reporting; utilize research to define and improve strategy.
• Responsible for hiring world class marketing talent and shaping the marketing team for maximum effectiveness.
• Develop brand methodology through researcher and evaluation of consumer behaviors.
• Lead via metrics across all marketing functions. Instill a data-led mindset across the organization. Ensure benchmarking of best practices across all marketing initiatives including key performance indicators (KPI’s) are developed and tracked across all campaigns and initiatives.
• Partner with departments to conceptualize campaigns that strengthen the team’s platforms and drive revenue for season ticket memberships, premium seating, group initiatives, and individual game ticket sales.
• Work directly with the Global Partnerships Solutions (GPS) team to identify new partnership opportunities and service existing partnerships to the fullest.
• Plan and manage year-round events that deliver a strong brand presence out in the community, across multi-cultural initiatives and serve as a source for lead and demand generation.
• Lead alignment between marketing, ticket sales and service, partnership sales and service, social responsibility, DE&I, and communications departments.
• Assist with the annual digital planning process and implementation to further engage and grow audiences through social media, digital platforms, and content.
• Implement process-oriented solutions to ensure best practices in marketing efforts to drive core brand awareness.
• Guide and coordinate the development of all marketing channels; provide creative input and direction; identify potential cross-promotional partners and implement strategic opportunities.
• Work with internal clients to ensure consistent messaging among all platforms including content, creative services, partner marketing, social media, sales and events.
What We Need From Our Job Title:
• Extensive experience in the use of integrated traditional above-the-line and below-the-line marketing strategies; ability to harness cutting-edge digital and technology-based marketing strategies
• Demonstrable success in leading loyalty marketing and/or subscription-based marketing strategies within a consumer-facing and “fan”-centric business.
• Employing a naturally collaborative style, work seamlessly across the organization to ensure a consistent voice and message across all communication channels on behalf of both external and internal constituents.
• Leverages data and analytics to develop insights, inform plans and measure performance.
• Experience partnering with sales, management, and creative leaders to drive distinction in an ambitious consumer marketplace.
• Experience in developing and executing brand architecture, guidelines, and brand identity across a portfolio of products and/or services.
• Experience developing and leading successful multi-year brand and conversion campaigns for prestigious brand(s).
• Extraordinary communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills that allows you to thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment.
• Highly adaptable – ability to shift priorities, activities, and team mindsets to keep pace with rapidly changing and growing environment.
• Strong executive presence and ability to influence and work with senior executives.
• Focus on listening to all Consumer Engagement perspectives and synthesize into one strategic direction; implement a “Fan First” mindset.
• Ability to prioritize and set clear objectives for direct and matrixed teams; coach and develop talent.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• 7 - 10 years' experience leading and executing integrated marketing strategies and plans
• Experience building buy-in and guiding execution of strategies across functions without direct management of resources
• Excellent business judgment and strategic aptitude
• Experience in successfully managing diverse teams
• Experience in leading an integrated marketing team
