The Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury are looking for an experienced and innovative Photographer to capture gameday, Marketing and retail lifestyle photography, partner event coverage, concerts, environmental spaces, and fan photography. This photographer role must have an exceptional eye and ability to capture timely moments in an extremely fast paced environment, where seconds matter and quickly adapting to changing environments is essential. The photographer must possess industry leading knowledge, understanding of photography equipment, and best practices for capturing fast paced action photos, arena spaces, as well as trendy lifestyle looks. The photographer will be responsible for delivering assets in real time during event days to various internal teams after capturing content, editing, and uploading. Archiving, properly tagging and organizing the photos after event days will be part of the role as well. Understanding of the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, the NBA, WNBA and working in sports culture is important. Equipment will be provided.
What you will do as the photographer:
• Photograph Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury home games from varying locations and angles within the Footprint Center. Photography needs include but are not limited to: Player arrivals, fan photography, in-arena activations, partner branding, in-game action, retail and marketing activations.
• Photo editing, tagging, organizing, distributing content in real time.
• Photo archiving through Photoshelter cloud storage and distribute selects in a timely manner after each game or event.
• Additional photography responsibilities include: Merchandise lifestyle shoots, giveaways, partner events, select concerts, behind-the-scenes, employee events, lifestyle retail collections, downtown and arena scenic photography, and more.
• Capture team & brand photography, build fan affinity, and drive business objectives.
• Additional coverage of Suns team events, community outreach initiatives and sponsor activations may be needed.
• Collaborate with departments across the organization when specific photos or moments are needed.
• Maintains a busy schedule of events and deliver according to consistent timelines
What skills do you need as the photographer:
• 2-3 years of sports photography or similar experience
• Candidate must possess technical understanding of equipment and the process of capturing and delivering sports photography.
• Ability to capture the moment without disrupting the moment.
• Ability to concept, visualize, and communicate vision for lifestyle shoots.
• Proficiency of Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Powerpoint), Photoshelter or similar archive system, Slack, as well as the Adobe Creative Suite – Light Room, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
• Must know how to adjust settings and achieve certain looks on the fly.
• Knowledge of the NBA, its culture and the Suns preferred
• Creative, collaborative, and energetic approach
• Candidate must be a team player
• Possess superior communication skills
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Education
and experience
• Undergraduate degree preferred, not required
• 2-3 years of professional experience required
• Adobe Creative Cloud expert knowledge required
What can you expect as the Photographer:
• This role requires the ability to attend all home games. This role experiences flexible scheduling to include evenings, weekends, some holidays and some overtime as business needs arise.
• Work includes both indoor and outdoor work with exposure to environmental elements
• M-Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
• Ability to work and communicate in noisy environments
• Capable of Public Communication, including public speaking
• Ability to judge distance
• This role is computer based and will require extended periods of time working in front of a computer screen
• Capable of distinguishing colors and shades of color
• Capable of listening carefully and speaking to others on the telephone/two-way radio
• Communicating with others to exchange information
• Ability to respond quickly to sounds/alarms
• Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations Ability to Read, Write & Speak in English
