Job Summary
The Pittsburgh Pirates Communications team is looking for a Director, Baseball Communications to help reinforce the brand and culture in our organization. In this role, you will be a professional leading the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Communications, which is an essential element of our business. Working closely with the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Communications and Broadcasting, this position will provide strategic counsel to Baseball Operations, major league and minor league coaching staff and as well as all player personnel.
This position oversees media relations personnel and activities, including utilizing a proactive mindset to leverage player and coaching staff interviews to advance the baseball and organizational messages. The Director, Baseball Communications will act as the primary point of contact for all baseball-related media initiatives and will serve as a spokesperson under the guidance of the SVP, Communications and Broadcasting.
Responsibilities
Primary:
• Provide strategic communication counsel to baseball operations, including all coaching staff and player personnel.
• Collaborate with Baseball Operations to develop key messages and story opportunities to drive and reinforce the desired narrative.
• Oversee all uniformed personnel media relations activities.
• Anticipate potential story lines and prepare uniformed personnel for all media interviews.
• Travel with the team on road trips throughout the regular season.
• Travel to Spring Training to oversee all media relations activities.
• Assist Director of Media Relations on gameday media operations during all home games.
• Lead the production of game notes, lineups, and other game related information.
• Assist with the editing and production of the annual media guide and other publications.
• Supervise the assignment of media credentials and complimentary ticket allotment.
• Act as spokesperson for the organization, under the guidance and policies of supervisors.
• Serve as a key point of contact with Major League Baseball on all baseball specific matters.
• All other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President, Communications and Broadcasting.
Secondary:
• Attend the annual public relations meetings.
• Assist with the organization's Player Relations efforts.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications or equivalent.
• Minimum of 6 years communications experience with a professional sports organization.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desired:
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Experience within Major League Baseball.
• Supervisor experience.
